330 wheels on 328?

Hello All,

I recently traded my 2005 325Ci (after 330,000 km since new) for a 2013 328Xi Luxury Line (with 42,000 km). Love the new car!

The 328 has 225/45R18 All Seasons. Where I live in a snow belt north of Toronto, Canada we need full blown winter tires six months a year.

A friend has given me a set of virtually new rims and tires from a 2011 330i Convertible. These have 225/45R17 Bridgestone Blizzak WS70.

There seems to be three potential issues:

(1) The 328 wheels have M14 x 1.25 lugs whereas the 330's are M12 x 1.5.

(2) The 328 rims are supposedly 8jx18 ET34 while the 330 rims are stamped 17 x 7 1/2 JJ / ASA JH-3 / JH37 / ET32.

(3) As best I can determine, the recommended R17 tire size for the 328Xi is 225/50R17 where the 50 aspect ratio is to maintain the same diameter on the 17" rims as the 45 aspect ratio has on the 18". The 225/45R17 diameter on the 330 wheels is 25" vs 26" for the 225/50R17 and 225/45R18. This is 4% smaller.

So, to get to the question: will these 330 wheels work on the 328?

Thanks!

Bryan

if the '11 330 wheels bolt pattern is 5x120, the lug holes is large enough to accommodate a 14mm bolt and the hub bore is 72.56 mm then it can work.

the tire diameter is 1" short but you could still use it. your speedometer will read a lot higher than your actual speed and your odometer will accrue more mileage than your actually traveling.

if the wheel fits i'd at least get tires of the proper 26" diameter

1. You would use your original lugs rather than the one's from the E90. The numbers pertaining to the lug bolts tell you what the diameter and thread width are: M14 x 1.25 = Metric, 14mm diameter, 1.25 mm width per thread. So an M12 x 1.5 is a smaller diameter bolt with larger threads, and won't fit your wheel hubs.

2. All BMW 3 series (iirc) wheels are 72.6 hub, 5 x 120 bolt pattern, so the wheels will fit. The ET is the measurement of backspacing, so they are within 2mm of each other, and I can't guarantee it but I doubt that will cause any rubbing.

3. The tire size on the E90 wheels will work, but your speedometer will be off due to the smaller diameter wheels. At 60mph on your speedometer, your actual speed would be about 57.6 mph; so the effect is about 2mph off at 60.

E90 wheels will work fine on an F30, the offsets are the same. As others have said, just use the bolts from your F30 rather than the ones from the E90.

The tires are one profile size too small, but you can use them. The important thing for you since you have an xDrive is that all 4 tires are the same size.

I currently have E90-size tires on my car on the fronts or my car and you can't really tell the difference handling-wise. The speedo is a bit off, but as long as you're aware of that it's not an issue.

Don't forget about the TPMS Compatibility. The E90 TMPS will not work on a F30.
