Agree except the coasting feature on eco pro. Wish it was available in any mode via idrive settings. I can coast for days.

It's called a "clutch" and it works in every mode.

You're right of course, I suppose I just wanted to elaborate on how much I hate eco-pro mode and why! I still maintain that sport mode should be the cars default though!! I shouldn't have to push a button (other than the starter) to get optimum throttle response!

You have some veeeeeeeeeeery long hills in your area then!

I wasn't aware of a coasting feature, how does that work then?

I'll tell you what about that whole setup we can complain about: the inability for the car to stay on the same driving mode when restarting the car. Now THAT is annoying!

Coasting is a setting in idrive for ecopro. When you let off the accelerator the transmission decouples from the engine (kinda puts the car in Neutral) drops the rpms down to about 600rpm until you touch the accelerator again. Super useful but only available in eco pro. No long hills needed just a slight down grade.

Very, I had a golf not so long ago and it would start up in the same drive mode it was in when the engine was last turned off! Plus you could totally customise every mode, so if you liked the standard steering (which I did because the 'sport' steering was too heavy in that car) you could have sport throttle with comfort steering! Although sport throttle and steering are near perfect in my 340...

I thought we were talking about coasting...

You're welcome to see if your auto can 'out think' me while we're both coasting!!!

how is this economical, though? if the transmission decouples from the engine, wouldn't you lose the ability to charge the battery? also, and this may not apply to the F30 auto transmission but normally when you are coasting in gear the momentum of the car keeps the engine going and the fuel injectors are turned off--ie no fuel is being used. if you go to neutral, even at 600rpm, your injectors would be running, therefore using fuel, whereas coasting in gear should use no fuel (until the ECU senses that fuel is needed to prevent a stall).

The alternator is tied to the engine, not the transmission. Also, physics will tell you that "coasting" is the most efficient use of momentum; to remain "in gear" essentially slows down the car due to engine braking/friction.

If we were both actually truly coasting then I doubt it, although you may as your car carries the extra weight of an auto box!!

I believe coasting here in the UK is actually illegal, at least it used to be!!

It's not really a hate thing but there are times I wish my F30 was an F80.

I love the analog gauges. I don't understand the love for all digital gauge clusters. They are ugly and cliche'd already.

You can code the Idrive to add tire pressure readout. I know this isn't handy, but just so you knew it could be done if you were really interested.

I think the interior accent lighting is LED... Are you referring to the primary interior lighting?

Yes, the reverse lights are not good at all.

Enjoy your new ride.

I just got the car, so no coding yet but already looking into it.

The main interior lights for the front and rear, I think that's called the primary lighting?

Gotta add another to the list....only one 12V socket
There is a second one hidden under the dash on the passenger side for US cars. Most markets have this, but not sure about Canada. You can add one to the rear pretty easy - it comes with higher spec models - yes this is silly.

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1276300

There are just some basic things missing from some models. Just got a new Jeep Grand Cherokee - base Laredo model and it has so much more as standard. Including sliding front visors I already discussed earlier in this thread. 12 volt sockets all over, even a 110 volt receptacle and a climate control sync button. 3 series used to have many extra features as standard, now the base models lag behind the curve as far as features.

you can code this as well, especially if you don't have HUD i can see it making a difference.

when looking for a coding platform, give bimmercode app a try. cheap, repeatable and use it as many times as you want whenever and no need for a laptop and developer is a member on the boards with excellent updates and support.

Can you "code" the TPMS readout in iDrive with the bimercode app? Does the car require different hardware at the tire stem valve?

you can code anything available through bimmercode app. if not already a prepopulated feature that you turn on or off through the most popular features then you can access "expert mode" and easily search through the modules/ecu and make whatever change needed where ever to satisfy your goal.

it is not limited in any way, and bonus is it comes with video in motion at any speed available to select from suite of available features.

I did this on my 2014, so hardware must support it.

Used laptop and wired cable in the past, but recently ordered the OBD-Wifi thing so I can use this app. Sounds easy-peasy.
