TPMS Malfunction with new wheels

Hello all,

I did some digging and couldn't come up with a solid answer from the other threads so here we go. Just got a new set of summer wheels and tires for my '13 335xi, retailer supposedly installed the correct HUF tpms sensors. Within 50 ft of driving the tpms malfunction warning was thrown. I have tried a bunch of times to do the tpms reset via the idrive system and it goes for about 10 seconds and then throws the error again. From what i can gather from other research if these are the correct tpms sensors for my vehicle, all i should have to do is the idrive reset, is that correct? I am having a hard time getting an answer out of the vendor and dont want to take it in for a diagnosis if i dont have to. Is there any chance that these need some kind of programming to mate up with the vehicle or are they just the wrong parts? Part number on the invoice was RDE017. BTW this is my first post so I attached a pic of the car to go with it. Thanks in advance.

You should be good with the RDE017 as I know they didn't change to RDE027 until cars producted after 3/1/2014

This is a helpful application list:
http://www.apexraceparts.com/apex-pr...plication-list

If you don't mind me asking, what are the specs of your wheels and tires?

Guess I might have to make a trip to the dealer to get it sorted. Specs are 19x8.5 ET35 235/35/19 & 19x9.5 ET43 255/30/19 .

I'm no expert but for an xdrive, those tires don't match up. Should be 235 and 265, or 225 and 255. Maybe that's what's messing things up?

This is the first set of rims/tires I have bought so I didn't realize there was a specific size requirements. Can you tell me why this is the case? Thanks.

With all wheel drive (xDrive) you need matched (at least within 1% difference) front and rear tire diameters to avoid excessive stress on the powertrain.

Your front tires are 1.6% taller than the rear:
235/35-19, 647mm
255/30-19, 637mm

And the tire/wheel god has spoken. .BMW is the expert on this, helped me out with my tire wheel selection.

So am I realistically going to cause damage to the vehicle by running this setup for a couple months a year, say maybe 2k miles, (I'm in Minnesota, summer doesn't last long) This is just making me even more irritated with the vendor, I let them pick the tire size, figured they knew what they were doing. In your opinion could this be the cause of the tpms malfunction as someone else suggested?

No, it's two different issues.

But I would definitely tell them they picked tires not suitable for a BMW with xDrive!

Personally I would never have accepted those sizes.

Hard to tell how long you can drive without issues, but I would never take the risk.

I had a similar issue, and then my tire-dealer had to re-program the TPMS Sensors. After that it has been working like a beauty. To my understanding most TPMS sensors can be programmed with a programming device to fit different Car Brands and models.

But as already mentioned here I would be worried with the bigger difference between your tires. BMW says maximum 1% in difference.

I pulled the wheels off until the vendor clears up this mess with the tpms. I had the car into the local BMW dealer and they told me the wrong sensors were installed, couldnt talk to my car. Another question though, i plan on swapping the tires once this is cleared up but i was wondering if anyone has had any experience running a 265/30/19 in the back lowered? I'm on h&r sports currently and was wondering if they might rub and if i should swap the fronts for 225/35's instead.

My local BMW dealerships are horrible with aftermarket TPMS. I bought a programmable set and the dealership tried multiple times before giving up and stating it was the wrong model for my car. Went to Discount Tire and 5 minutes later without even taking the wheels of the car they were programmed and registering.

I'm having the opposite experience with Discount. They've installed a couple of different sensors (latest ones are Huf) and reprogrammed them numerous times and I still get a TPM Malfunction after resetting and driving. My car's build date is 2013-07-29, was there a hardware change in 2014? Which sensors did you end up with?

My car's build date is similar, I think Nov 2013.

I'll check when I get home tonight as they are actually sitting in a bag waiting to go into a new set of wheels. I know they are Huf RDE012 or RDE017.

No.

Either use 235/40 or 245/40 front in combination with 275/35 rear tire on a car with xDrive.

Tpms- same issue- at the end I had my OEM wheels broken down and match the tpms with the new ones.
Tire size - 245/40r 18 from rear 275/35 r 18 rear
No issue with this set up.

Discount installed the programmable UVS4030 on my 335i and programmed to both 2014 and 2013 and neither worked. Huf's website shows RDE017V21 to be compatible with 2013.

i had a tire shop install these in my aftermarket wheels back in december, 2013 335i xdrive and i have had zero issues.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/BERU-HUF-TPM...-/390744245492

All i did was reset TPMS in my idrive. There was no "programming" or anything necessary.
