The subframe is pretty light with the steering rack attached still, I'm going to hopefully put it back up tonight after work, doesn't seem like it will be too bad to get into place.

Also 3 bolts on the trans side that bolt into the pan. Those are steel and reusable. The kit doesn't replace those.
And there's 2 clips bolted to the pan for trans lines, they're weird. I just shoved the correct e torx on there, it's moves clips and allows it to seat down, you'll see when you're there. I was confused for a second
Cheers thats all good to know! like you ive just been winging it based on what seems right...

Hopefully the tow hook will come today and I can really start to get into it

Most of the DIY videos on Youtube are for modifications and not repairs. Most of those channels will probably move onto a new car before really need substantial repairs.
For sure. I've been looking for a while and haven't found any diy videos. The closest was an n20 xDrive which was only slightly helpful but not too relevant. I'm still not sure if I have the guts to do this job, but pw, your ambition inspires me. Maybe I can do it too.

You absolutely can do it!
I've just been winging it honestly on jack stands in a 1 car garage lol. It's not that bad once you start.
I can do this easily again now that I know which clips I have to snap off accidentally etc etc 😂 lol
I was feeling overwhelmed until I got the frame down and went, wow that was it? Hours later haha

M3 subframe, it's aluminum so thicker but anyone concerned with bore to bolt holes on my newly ground mount opening lol? Or y'all think it's safe
Really don't want a crack, however plate steel is strong, and they're not solid mounts.

This thread is great. Exactly what I was looking for as I'm about to start this exact project. Only difference is I'll have some Xdrive components to fight with.

I think I'll also have to at least inspect the rod bearings as well. I'm a little worried about them because the car has 140,000km on it, and the previous owner was a young kid, and I'm pretty sure he beat on it. The first thing I did was an oil change, and I cut open the filter to inspect it. I did find some shiny silver metallic shavings in it. Not a ton, but at the same time I'm not sure what's considered normal. By comparison I did an oil change on my buddies E90 N55 last week and cut open his old filter too. His had nothing at all after 8000km.

If the bearings do show signs of wear, which replacement option would be the best for daily driving?

I wouldn’t worry about expanding the hole, don’t think it will cause any issues. Just check it during oil changes

My fcp order arrived today. Sad news 2 of the king bearings were .25’s instead of std…. Heard this happens from time to time with king bearings working with FCP now to fix.

I've seen that before, can't you just attach the tow hook directly to the support bar, no chain? It looks like that might work from the photo

Alright cool, just needed that little reassurance, I'm sure it's good, not alot or vibrations really transmit to the frame and mount itself with the large head bolts should add reinforcements.

Anyway I'll paint that section after work and install frame and mounts, I only get an hour or 2 after work sadly so this feels like it's taking forever lol

I'm sorry for the delays you keep hitting! That's frustrating, I saw the king bearings thing with other people to, oddly
Hopefully that gets worked out quickly so you can get back to the project

Are you going to modify the frame opening for the m3 mount like I did or just gonna run the stock ones?

Nice bro nice. I imagine it wasn't easy raising that thing into place and bolting up without any help.

I'll tell ya, it's not as bad as one would think, I jack the back up and it pinches the frame and holds itself pretty good, jack stands to lower it a little, move jack to front til it's hovering level under the car, and slowly raise into place, there's aluminum brackets in the front, the attach to front of the car and they hold the intercooler brackets. The front has to be set first, then I just used my knee to pin up the back and hand tighten the rear mounts, back and forth slowly while slowly tightening and watching everything lol. Tedious, not too hard but tedious. Certainly came apart easier tho
