Looking good. Keep it up. Ignore the haters. I have an F80 and agree that what you would have to pay to get one is pretty ridiculous. Hopefully you can source a powertrain to match. It would never be complete without the power to match.

The flaming on this thread is completely unnecessary.

If you can't read through to see WHY he's doing it this way, then don't bother to comment on why you don't think it makes sense.

It is quite shocking, usually there is that one guy that doesn't read or understand how things in the US come relatively cheap compared to other parts of the world, but this thread is full of ignorant people.

How would importing from the US be cheaper? Freight costs in addition to all import taxes. Buying a used M3 in the US and importing it would probably be cheaper than buying a brand new, but it would still be similar kind of money.

And if a M3 costs 199k and the 318 costs 49k, then it's not that difficult to understand that his mods will be MUCH less than the price difference between the two cars.

I am speechless, this mod is insane.
I am curious how expensive is the labor, if you do it in the United States I guess the labor plus car will end up about the same as purchasing a brand new M3 or even more.

He already has a F8x akrvpovic exhaust.
Edit: Actually he has just the tips. He has a stock F8x muffler.

In Turkey, labor is extremely cheap compared to US. So there is no doubt OP's build will cost less than what an M3 costs in Turkey.

Let me explain the what type of bullshit going on there. Aside from VAT, there is also something called consumer tax. It varies based on the engine displacement for cars. For instance, for an M3 you have to pay 18% VAT plus 145% consumer tax. On top of this craziness, you also have to pay an annual tax based on the age of the car and its engine displacement. In other words, not many people can afford a car that has 2000cc or bigger engine in Turkey.

There are several similar projects in Russia, maybe some information will be useful. They are all on a DRIVE2 — kind of automotive social network. Some of them post all the part numbers and write about the difficulties they are facing.

I thinks it's a win-win for OP. The joy of building something and doing it cheaper overall is awesome. Keep up the good work and best of luck!

Still what is the S55 alone going to cost? Or is this just visual mods only.

The S55 alone can be found at aprox $17.000 only for the engine.
It's without turbos and transmission
http://www.ebay.de/itm/2015-BMW-F80-...gAAOSwq19XDEKd

To that comes fitting and prob. tax.
Here in Denmark one cannot just exchange the engine or the entire driveline without having to pay the tax as if it was a similar M3/M4 bought with the same milage.
I just had a look at a M4 at the local service center. Imported from DE and Fully loaded with only 1000km on the clock its set at $229.000. It's considered used with that milage. if brand new it would have been $336.000 due to tax.
Prob the same in Turkey

Point is, thats why some ppl do conversions like this.
