Door seal creak - is Carbaflo effective?
I have a creaking door seal on the 8. It took me a while to find it as from the driver’s perspective it sounded like it was coming from the passenger seat.
I seem to remember some on here recommending putting Carbaflo lubricant on the door seal to solve this. Anyone used this - I’d be interested to know if it works? |

That'll do the job nicely on all the rubber seals

Never used that but have used Gummi-pflege before, it has worked with the odd creak on the Z4 seals.

I think the 3M anti squeak tape has been mentioned as the only permanent cure, but it's very expensive.
Gummi bears did nothing on my 330d door seal creaking, but Meguiars endurance tyre gel shuts them up for months. |

Thanks for all of the responses. It sounds like that Gummi-pflege is worth a try to see if it solves it.

But.... doesn't the 8 have pillarless doors ? so not like the f3x's where the problem is that black trim, where the felt on the door frame rubs.

It does have frameless doors, but the creaking doesn’t seem to come from the window touching the seal. The creaking doesn’t change if I slightly open the window. I’m assuming it comes from another part of the door.

This is horrendous on BMW’s. Sadly once it starts it’s almost impossible to stop it and it drives me absolutely nuts. It’s one of the main reasons I couldn’t wait to get rid of my last X5. The new one hasn’t developed it yet thankfully!
I’ve tried all sorts, none seem to work longer term. In the end I just kept the furry seal bit damp (with a few drops of bottle water) on hot sunny days when it was worse. I think it starts when the seals get contaminated with something in some types of car body wash |

When I had the creak on the F31, BMW changed the door seals, that didn't work. They gave me some silicone remover and told me to wipe the rubbers and parts of the bodywork where the seals touch to stop the creak. It worked for a while. Cured it myself in the end with some Hoerev tape.
Seeing the OP's car has frameless doors it is not the same creak as F31's but you could always try the silicone remover as a deep clean and see if it stops it for a while or at least identifies where it comes from? If it's in a location that's not seen i.e. door shut, then tape could be the answer? |

Thanks for the replies - very interesting to know more about this.
I thought I’d try Carbaflo first given that it’s a BMW approved product and I don’t want to give BMW an excuse to wriggle out of a potential warranty issue. It only affects the rear passenger door currently. Not sure if the door has more seals than most cars - but there are 2 on the door, one of which meets another seal on the car body. I’ll post a couple of pics. It seems to have solved this completely. I guess the only question is how long it lasts, but if it just means reapplying this stuff from time to time, I can live with that. The creaks were particularly annoying on this car as the rest of it is well put together. I’m more forgiving of creaks on the Mini. |

Likewise.
I bought the Fuchs version of it the day this thread came up, so will slap it onto the seals next time I wash the car. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/305479019...AaAuxsEALw_wcB |

It's worked on my F30 as well. Approx 20% of the tube used to do all 4 doors, so hopefully it doesn't wear off in a week as that will get expensive!
Happy to report it works on creaky plastics as well. My centre console used to snap, crackle and pop when leaning on the arm rest, and it's cured that irritation as well. |
