Dermatitis

Odd message, I've suffered with dermatitis on my thumbs for a couple of years, then it dawned on me I've had it since I bought the 440i, looked it up and apparently some leather is treated with Chromium

https://www.dermnetnz.org/topics/chrome-allergy

Since wrapping the steering wheel in cling film and now added a poorly fitting cover the dermatitis has gone!.. steering wheel looks awful so need a better solution, just thought it might be of use to any fellow sufferers..

I am a fellow sufferer and for those that have never experienced this is horrific. I will not post phots of my hands or feet, but they are similar, worse to those in the link.

My issue started 4 years ago, when being diagnosed with a lump, I had my first operation cancelled on the day due to what looked like an allergy on my hands and with out understanding the cause, I couldn't have the anaesthetic.

I was sent for allergy tests, and found I had none. There were no reactions to any of the allergens put unto my back. I was then sent for a MRI scan, and I woke up in hospital after having an allergic reaction to the contact medium - bromine.

4 months later and I had my first surgery, with my hands just progressively getting worse, to the point where I cant pick anything up, I don't have a way of clocking in at work, due to my finger prints changing constantly with different levels of splits. The diagnosis was contact dermatitis/ excyma.

I wear non allergen gloves for day to day activities, to cotton gloves, looking like Marcel Marso, and being asked by almost every one why the gloves...

2 surgeries later after a relapse and finding further lumps, my hands are no better. I still wear gloves for almost every thing, driving is one, so I can rule out the steering wheel. In my other car, its manual, on Saturday, my palm split open changing gear.... quite painfull and frustrating. one specialist is indicating I might have a form of MRSA which prevents the healing. Its very confusing with all the specialists having a diffrerent opinion.

Steroid Hand creams and moisturisers are an every day thing, but alas nothing seems to stop it. If only I could find a solution similar to yours it would be awesome. I am really glad you have found the route cause. I have tried cutting out everything, from coffee to sugar to sale, to alcohol and various food types, in case its food related.

So you glad you have found a solution. I know of a fellow suffer, so I will let them know your story.

There are benefits.... I haven't washed up or ironed, or lifted anything hot in years, as I have no finger sensitivity, I cant feel heat or cold, so after burning and scalding myself with taps, pans and kettles, I just cant do that anymore. its a proper shit condition...

Royal steering wheels can retrim your steering wheel - think they charged Fat Kid 1 £150 to redo his wheel in alcantara ,decent job.

Might be a better solution than cling film.

Same issue with my car's steering wheel.

I bought a new car 3 weeks ago. Since then I have started having issues with my palms and soles of my feet. My hands feel a little better over weekends when I don't drive, but as soon as I leave for work, my hands start burning and get inflamed and dry... I am assuming there is some type of chemical in or on the steering wheel that is causing this... What an annoying thing to get. Lol. If anyone has advise on how to manage this, please share? Steven

My son has suffered from hand dermatitis for years.
Discovered sea moss about 6 months ago and hasn't looked back.
