Track Day was a success! Lowered my time by 8 seconds compared to the first time I went. Unfortunately it rained for most of the day so I only got one dry session in. Car felt so much better than stock. Tires and brakes performed really well! Hope the picture attachment shows up.

I always ran in Sport +, I do not care for the throttle mapping in sport/sport+ it's not linear and hard to modulate (I have a tune and PS2 so maybe it's that). The last event I did I turned off DSC and it seems to help the throttle mapping be a bit more linear. As for tire pressures I have RE-71R square setup and 36 PSI hot seemed to be the best for me so far.

I lowered my rear tires to 34 cold and they went all the way to 46 hot during the event.

Thats way to high and it's nearing the limit of what a tire can take.

Normally you want around mid 30's HOT. As pressure builds you want to drop depending on how it progresses throughout the day.

Dsc OFF off switches the throttle mapping to the same as Comfort mode

My experience with Sport+ and DSC off while on track, and in my case "M Sport" package brakes (4 piston front, 1 piston rear) is that if DSC is not disabled, you will completely cook your rear brakes. I learned this in the Spring after spending 2 days at an HPDE event with brand new OEM pads and rotors. I had just a sliver of pad left on the passenger rear and just slighly more on the driver read pads, and a melted pad sensor. Half of this time was spent in Sport+ (primarily the first day) and the rest with DSC off.

I tested this out again this fall to confirm where I ran Sport+ the first 20 minute session and by the end of that I could smell my brakes before even getting off the track and sure enough they were cooked in the back (probably lost 15-20% of the thickness). Even if you don't see any traction or stability lights come on your dash, it seems that DTC and/or DSC will engage your rear brakes frequently. Maybe this is more of an issue with AWD as my car is xDrive? Another gentleman in a new WRX had exactly the same problem (though he was unable to disable his stability control at all) and ended up grinding up his brand new rotors in the rear in less than a full day.

I think this might be an xDrive issue.... I get almost zero intervention in Sport+ with my RWD.
Also, with a RWD car in DSC-off mode, the eLSD engages... this works by applying ABS to the wheel that's losing grip; without a mechanical LSD, this can produce abnormally high rear brake pad use/wear. And interestingly, the eLSD works basically like xDrive - but only on the rear axle... so I think it's xDrive doing it's thing (applying ABS to the wheel(s) it thinks are losing grip) that's causing your excessive pad wear.

I ran 28 cold and it still got to mid 30's hot. 34 cold is still too much.

This is correct. The elsd is kicking in. But changing rear brake pads is way cheaper than an mperformance lsd lol.

I would say It's almost a necessity if you plan on tracking a lot and not getting an LSD. My OE rear pads also burned up on track very quickly. I got 10k out of them but I think 2 track days were responsible for 75% or more of that wear. The RedStuff pads seem to be way more tolerant and didn't wear much at all.

You'll get to a point where you can FEEL the traction control intervening and slowing you down, you won't need the light to tell you.

If you're not so intune with your car that you feel it turn on and slow you down, just leave it on. You'll know it when the time comes.

Modern traction control is really good anyway, it's not like 20 years ago

Hey OP. Maybe try coding the temp display with the tire pressures. It's nice to be able to get that info as well. I used Bimmercode app.

Or just get a Long Acre tire pressure gauge. People should be checking tire temps as soon as they're off the track

Runflats demand higher cold pressures than regular tires. The door jam recommends something like 38PSI cold, but I'm on conventional tires, and I do 30.

I usually turn traction control completely off, but im on a NT01 and they hook up very well. But if this is one of your first track days, i would suggest starting in sport (leaving traction on) then eventually going to Sport + as you get more comfortable

You will find a 2psi drop isn't nearly enough, i'd start by going down to 25/30 and check pressures immediately after your run..

Holding DSC to turn it off completely will override the throttle mapping from switching modes

Exactly, with everything off (in my car at least) you get Sport steering and Comfort throttle. You can just skip putting it into Sport and press the DSC button for 7 seconds.

I wish I could program it to be like that all the time, really not a fan of sport throttle.
