All this talk about boost figures...how much boost is actually held to redline? 18.5 or 20 PSI or whatever is nice, but it means nothing if it's fading to half that near redline. All that torque doesn't help if it's not in the rev-range where you spend all your time at WOT. What's it running between 6000 and 7000 RPM...14 PSI?

But I'm a little jaded. I only used to run 10 PSI a car ago, set to come on gradually and creep to 11 PSI all the way to 7000 RPM...on nothing but 91 octane. That's what a proper boost-control system gets you.

Then they were a noob LOL. Downpipe is standard terminology across the board, but I've only heard "chargepipe" in the context of BMWs.

I never heard of "charge pipe" until BMW's as well. I've always just called it intercooler piping.

There's an upper and lower IC pipe. Maybe that's where the confusion came in?

Great #'s, although I don't see how this is useable outside of the strip or stop light drag racing.

That amount of boost on a track would result in limp mode in literally a few laps...

It'll be interesting to see how the M3 addresses limp mode issues. Obviously it has been track tested and R&D'd, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the F80/82 tracks when in customer's hands.

what are his corrected numbers? If he dynoed in cold air those numbers will be skewed.

This is generally correct, but you cannot dyno an F30 in 6th - it reaches the ECU imposed speed limiter before reaching redline

7000 RPM in 6th with the 8AT is 170mph

Most BMW's are this way - geared too high by the rear end to dyno with the transmission at a 1:1 ratio

Generally you dyno BMW's in 4th for a manual, and 5th for an 8AT

If you're having a problem with the kick-down in the automatic, hold down the DSC button until it displays DSC OFF, slide the transmission stick to the left for sport then manually shift through the gears - when you get to 5th, floor it (through the kick-down) it will not shift down, and will not shift up when you redline

This will also prevent the DME from cutting throttle if the wheels slip a little

They've already been proactive: air to water intercooler will immensely help, and I'm assuming double oil intercoolers will be standard (and probably larger than the M Sport ones)...it won't have issues with heat soak, they built in with the Ring in mind.

get the car to the track when the temp warms up and see what it runs/traps

if the average trap speed backs up the dyno numbers then that's really good news for the n55 cars

Couldn't run it in 6th to redline anyway without hitting the speed limiter...
