Correct yeah, all along the underside of the shadowline trim since that seems to be the culprit, rather than the rubber on the door.

This creaking is happening on my B7 (LWB) with shadowline trim and it's making me insane. I can't wait to try this fix!

Just did this to my M3. Problem solved.

Only issue is that the 15' roll cost $36 and was about 6" too short to do both sides with no waste.

Despite this, the creaking is gone.

You can do this "fix" by just waxing the area also.

Idk man, I rather not get some wax build up on the felt trim that meets with the shadowline trim

I didn't feel like going back to the dealer, so I bought a spray can of 6% silicon spray, and just spray a paper towel with the silicon and wipe the trim above the doors from front to back.

The spray is expensive, but one treatment seems to last for weeks and lasts even after a wash. Just watch overspray because this stuff is slippery and hard to remove once it hits something.

Great. Do you put it on the rubber felt or the black trim?

I have a '18 M3 and have tried gummi and wax and the creaking always comes back after a month or so and a couple car washes.

Thank God I found this thread!
I will tackle this project this weekend.
Will not take my car to a dealer for this. They managed to scratch my trunk during the last oil change.

Thank you OP for putting together the DIY!!!

Bought the tape at Amazon for $6 and spent 15 min tops Saturday morning following OP's DIY.
Super happy with the result! Zero creaks and I'm sure they won't be back!

Has anyone tried this on the convertible? Because it's a frameless door, and there's a rear quarter window which directly contacts the front door window glass.

I went with 0.5" width and it's perfect.
Good luck!

Does SIB 51 28 10 actually cover the F30. I took my car to the dealer last week, who told me it didn't apply. They just cleaned the seals which fixed the issue for about 4 hours.
Does anyone have a copy of the SIB they could post (or send me)?

Thanks

This creaking is comming from 2 parts:

1. The shadow line trim which can be fixed with the teflon tape.

2. The glass rubbing against the seals causing the sound. The only fix i think is changing door glass seals? Or put some material inside, where the glass is moving.

I already applied teflon tape and the creaking is less but continue to have creaking from the glass and seal!

Please help!

I told him I do keep my car clean and wipe down the seals as well, and he simply replied that it's not clean enough and there's probably still dust stuck on it. As the op mentioned, cleaning was only a temporary solution.

I was pretty disappointed so hoping that if I can show them an actual service bulletin with a more useful resolution than simply "keeping it clean," then it might help.
Do you have a sport line or M Sport? I have a sport line and my previous 5 series and current F30 squeaks were solved by simply taking a cloth and cleaning my window seals after every car wash. Other BMWs I have don't have the trim on the body like the 3 series, so maybe it's something specific to the gloss trim interfacing to the door's top seal/flocking?

It literally takes 5 minutes to thoroughly clean all those seals and they will work better if kept clean anyway. I'd rather keep them clean then apply tape to the car.

Sorry for the bump, but I searched and couldn't find anything solid on this -- did anyone get this to work on the convertible?

I have an 2020 F83 and the creaks and squeaks are worse than the 10 year old Honda I bought in high school.

Dealer is claiming "the convertible top is operating as expected".

If you are out of warranty and didn't plan on spending over $250 for magic tape the following solution might help. Fingers crossed

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...6#post27756776

The short version: 1) Clean all seals, especially between upper seals, with a microfibre towel + water, then clean again with silicone remover. 2) Lube between seals with the KSP 105.

You can go insane spreading the KSP 105 all over the place but start by cleaning and lubing between the upper door seals. See how far that takes you then lube additional areas.

Good luck.
