Then get this - 42-43c in Gay Paree! wow thats hot.

All washed down with some rain at the end of the week.

The folk in New york are complaining about the 36c there at the moment I think 42 in Paris is far more concerning.

Yes the heat in France looks far more serious.

We're on the south coast but the met office have us down for 28c, the SE appears to be taking the brunt.

The best thing I did was fit a ceiling fan in our bedroom a few years back.

High 20s here early this week and then we’re off to Spain for a couple of weeks, mid 30s apparently, standard for there but still uncomfortable at times, I’ve experienced 40 a few times it’s ok on holiday but I couldn’t imagine going about my everyday life in it.

Tube will be joyous... the walk alternative not much better.

I am at Lords on Wednesday after meetings at office from 7.30 till 10.15, could be a bad day to be (drinking) at cricket...

Just switched the heating on this morning as it is bloody cold up here , jacket and hat worn whilst dog walking at 08:00 this morning.

I went to the gym at 6.30 this morning it was 20 degrees then according to the car, the air conditioning in the gym was playing up, the sweat was pouring out of my wrists and everything...

Not looking forward to it at all - have to work outside all day and it's a killer when it's that hot - thankfully I'm ok the south coast all day Wednesday so might have to go for a dip in the sea at lunch!

So glad we had air con fully installed at home back in April and have to say it's the best thing I've spent money on for a while and wish I'd done it years ago! - our house is east/west facing with the 1 year old's bedroom being at the front of the house and getting the sun beaming through the window all afternoon - just a couple of weeks back, the room hit 28c and our room was 25c. Nice to be able to turn the aircon on and know that the rooms will be at a sensible temperature within a short time!

Also will be used as a heat pump in winter, so hopefully save on some heating bills too

Indeed. I get in very early to avoid morning tube rush but evenings will be hell.

This country just isn't setup for extreme hot or cold.

Due to a combination of over insulating at build and a shit load of glass, my living room and one of the bedrooms retain an extraordinary amount of heat to the point that they can be 38 degrees plus when it's high 20's outside. Opening all the windows dows nothing.
Switch the AC on and within an hour the room is at least 10 degrees cooler.

Only thing is I can't sleep with the AC on. Every time I do it I seem to wake up with a sore throat and runny nose.

That’s a pain - do you think it’s drying the room out too much or something? Does the room heat up fairly quick again once you turn it off?
We just leave ours running all night and the fan of the indoor unit runs all night with the compressor/fan on the outdoor unit kicking in when the room needs cooling.
Both wife and I suffer with hay fever and have noticed that, as we now don’t sleep with the windows open, we’re not waking up sneezing and stuffy in the morning. Another bonus of the air con!

Getting a new boiler fitted on Thursday. I want them to test it on Friday thinking about it, if it’s 37c outside putting the heating on might cool it down inside.

Try maybe not setting your ac at too low a temperture if this is the case. Just leave it at say 21 deg c.

Funnily enough, that’s the temperature we set ours too. Sounds quite warm still, but it’s surprisingly comfortable. Started out with it at 18c and that was bloody freezing!!

It’s getting to the point where we need to consider air conditioning of some sort, my 2 year olds room was 30 degrees last night with our house only being 3 years old it’s well insulated great in the winter...not so great in July!

Do you mind me asking how much it cost and what you had installed?

We had a vary of prices, depending on what manufacturer. I think Panasonic was the cheapest at just under 4K - that’s for a 3 way multi split outdoor unit, running 2 bedrooms and our open plan lounge/kitchen downstairs.
The most expensive would have been Dakin, but we didn’t get a quote for that. After a lot of research and spreadsheets, we went with the Mitsubishi system. Again 3 way multi split, using 2 x LN-25 indoor units for the bedrooms and one LN-35 for the downstairs. They were more efficient than the others and They came with a whole host of features that the others didn’t come with and would have had to pay extra for - WiFi module for phone app control, air filtration so will kill off bacteria etc, 3D room monitoring for full automatic air control. Plus I thought they looked the nicest!
They are using the latest R32 refrigerant and we could have got it cheaper if we’d gone for the older refrigerant.
This came in at around £4800 with a 7 year warranty.
I seems expensive, but we’re all electric and there’s no mains gas in the village. It was a bit of an investment with the hope that its 6:1 heating coefficient will save some of the £140 a month it costs just to heat a 2 bed house over winter and slowly claw back some of the install cost! Plus you get air con, so it’s win win!
We had to run a new supply to the outdoor unit, which I could do, but factor in that cost too.
If you just run a single 1 outdoor unit feeding 1 indoor unit and almost straight through the wall, it’ll run on a plug top and we were quoted around £700 for that.

Annoyingly, because it’s air-to-air and does air con as well as heat and not air-to-water for heating only, you’re not entitled to the government RHI scheme

What I want to know is how come the flying ants know in advance this is going to be the hottest day of the year? It's a fairly cool morning here at the moment yet the ants nest in the back garden is a hive of activity whereas it's usually quiet
