This worked great....first time.
One of the settings was already what was listed here so I didn't have to change that. The switch removal was a touch different on my M2. Just pull the panel off. It's held on by 4 bayonette type clips rather than the spring ones in page 1 of this thread. I just pried it straight off with a panel removal tool. It took me only about 30 minutes and that was while working from home on the laptop, so I was multitasking for sure. Thanks to the OP for sure.

Thanks for this excellent write-up.
I also coded the rear fog lights to come on with the welcome lights: REM / 3063 LceLampMapping 2 / MAPPING_NEBELSCHULSSL_L_PART_OF_WL = soft_on REM / 3063 LceLampMapping 2 / MAPPING_NEBELSCHULSSL_R_PART_OF_WL = soft_on |

I was able to enable my fog lights although it might be worth mentioning I spent probably 30 minutes trying to remove the tabs on the button. I was wondering what was wrong with it because it wasn't clicking, but then I realized it clicks once you put it back in the assembly, not on its' own! I was able to shave the tabs down with some wire cutters and a small old serrated knife.
Thanks for making this so simple, azwillnj! I'd been meaning to get this done for a long time. Glad I got it done! |

There's a PDF called E-Sys - Getting Started Coding - Part 1.pdf in that one pinned thread that shows you the whole process of changing and uploading values to the car. It's short, simple, and to-the-point. It shows you how to enable rolling up your windows by holding the roundel but more importantly it'll show you the path you'll need to follow in E-Sys to make just about any changes.

Aside form the purpose...not entirely sure but I dont think so. The rear fogs are direct related to the main light and as far as I remember this right, they would and could only powered after the lights was switched on. You have to find a way to put an autonomeous power to them to override the step-by-step activation. I dont think there is a coding way to separate the power on settings for both lights.

Just wanted to say.. good write-up, cool free-mod. Popped the button out with a flathead wrapped in electrical tape, shaved the nubs off with a razor, popped it back in. Coded with BimmerCode, which was extremely easy. Entire process took maybe 15 mins from grabbing the screwdriver to showing people how bright the rear fogs are. Hidden features are neat, makes you wonder why they were hidden in the first place.

I have a 15 GC without the fogs. When doing this mod, it looks as thou the rear fog switch will not light up. Does the front fog switch light up? If so, Is it possible to switch the front switch to the rear switch?

The front fog light is backlit at the led baseboard and not on the plastic switch itself. But the bottom one where the rear fog light goes does not light up as there is no led on the baseboard in the US switches. Also The front fog switch will not fit in the rear switch spot as the switch shapes are different. |

I have an f32 with the m sport bumper(no front fog lights).....does anyone know if the switch has the rear fog light (and front for that matter) function built in so that this mod can be done just to have rear fogs?

I dont think so but you have to experience that by removing the switch unit. Just the headlight unit w/o fogs shouldnt contain at the back the contacts for the pushbuttons but Im not entirely sure.

Enable rear fog lights on F25 X3 - no coding
The described mod doesn't work on my 2011 X3, the switch has no button for the rear fog lights. So I swapped my headlight switch with a European one that has the extra button. The rear fog lights worked, but the rain sensor and intermittent wipers stopped working. So I put my original switch back in, and only swapped the front cover and inserted the rear fog light push button from the European switch. Now everything works, and no coding required. The US switch has the contacts and a hole for the button, it just doesn't have the button and the hole for it in the front cover.

I coded and enabled my rear fog lights, along with the euro flash braking referencing this thread. I used the euro switch. (My car doesn't have front fogs)

I see, so its at least an improvement for your own safety. Is this a reason to got pulled over by the cops when activated?

EDIT: On my car they’re super bright but yours might be different depending on your model. The new LED tails aren’t so bright and could probably be used anytime without blinding people. Only way to know for sure if they’re too bright is to look for yourself. |

No, the different brightness of the lamps themselves is exactly what they supposed to do. The normal light has 5W value bulbs, brake and fog has 21W and this causes the brightness.
If they're replaced by LED, the modules will regulate the rate of power to achieve the desired brightness. This has nothing to do with the model, but the bulbs or LED modules
