Well, if it's a known issue they'd probably have to recall all F-30s produced thus far. If that's the case, then hopefully they're tackling the problem at the point of assembly.

fwiw I had the same rattle. On mine the noise came from the center console and felt like it was coming inside the dash, but it turns out my drivers side sun visor was pulled out its housing and it wasn't pushed back in so that was grinding against the top and generating the noise. I still find it odd that it seemed to come from inside the dash but now that the visor is snugly fitted back in it doesn't rattle anymore.

No car company would recall for that. It'd most likely be a TSB that the dealers would perform when you brought your car in.

When an issue comes in it is noted and reported. BMW looks at how many same complaints come in. If there are a good number they look into it and find a fix. Then they issue a TSB-technical service bulletin that tells other dealers how to fix a known problem/issue. TSB's are common practice in the auto industry. Recalls are only issued 2 ways. A federal recall is a safety related issue that is issued by the NHTSA, only after complaints come in and only if they are safety related. Issues like rattles, squeaks, poor running engines, etc... are covered by TSB's. Some times, if a problem becomes widespread and is severe, like the HPFP failures, manufacturers will issue their own service "recall". For those, letters will be sent to customers telling them about it. These are rare. Rattles and squeeks won't get a recall, they are easily handled by TSB as needed when a customer complains. |

Well, I took it in for that rattle noise coming from the dashboard, and also, the button to move the head rest came off so they are going to fix that. I told them that the car was brand new and that they should give it to me without any scratches. And trust me when I saw I want it back the way I gave it to them. I bought A 2012 335i the first day it came out, but the nav and radio was reseting itself all the time, so I switched from that car to another 335i same color but more options, which is the one I'm driving now.
Service told me it will be ready by next week. I'm praying they do a good job. Other than that, is a great car! |

Well, BMW (service manager) told me that I should live with it. They told me that I drive too fast... but the thing is.. why make the ultimate driving machine, if you are going to be driving it like a ... grandpa, SERIOUSLY! It's very unprofessional of them to do that... specifically from Bert Ogden BMW Service Manager.. He is a bloody idiot! I will take it again and I will let them know what you told me! Thanks for the comment and I will let you know the outcome! |

Cars with stiff suspensions tend to suffer from this a lot. You should hear my Vette after 4000 miles. My friends 911 is the same way. However my CR-V is dead silent after 5 years.

yeah,
The current F30 & F25 cabin material quality is lower than 2012 Mazda Cx-9. Especially, poor fit & finish make rattle/squeaky noise. F30's materials are slightly better than F25 though! F30 owners might get more creaking noise this winter just like my F25 did. Last edited by jsl1419; 04-17-2012 at 04:36 PM.. |

rattles happen in every car... the first year especially... My 2003 a4 had so many I dynomatted the entire car (it was a show car not a go car so don't start with the weight BS)
All Im saying is, report em and hope they fix em... and ANY SERVICE MANAGER WHO TELLS YOU TO JUST LIVE WITH SOMETHING DOESNT DESERVE HIS JOB. Call the BMW dealer rep and let them know what they've told you... You may be surprised how much BMWNA cares!

My '12 328i has a buzz/squeak from the HUD and speaker area. My previous BMW’s were rock solid and quiet so I wasn’t expecting this. My wife's ’10 Acura TL sounds like a old styrofoam ice chest and after three visits to the dealership I gave up on trying to fix it.
0813 - And yet another new buzzz has just started inside dash... I'm getting tired of playing "find the rattle" game with this car. I can't duplicate it at the roads around the dealership. Last edited by ddjones; 08-13-2012 at 11:54 AM.. |

My 2008 Audi A4 (which i hand in next week for my F30) was silent for the first 3 years and then started squeaking from the centre console.
At my next service the manager toldme the engine mounts neded replacing which was done, and the rattling stopped. |
