BMW Insured Warranty cover
Hi chaps
My 440i is coming up for 3 years old already (man that's gone fast) and had an offer for 'Insured Warranty Comprehensive' cover for £69pa. Seems reasonable, anyone else got it and do you rate it? Ta

I had it on my 328i.
That’s one of the reasons why I kept it for so long. It’s peace of mind knowing that most problems will be covered by the extended warranty. |

Ha just reread it. £69pa is for the roadside assistance. It doesn't give a price for warranty you have to ring up. But my question remains if people think it's any good.
Roadside isn't too bad for £69. I've called out BMW assistance 2 or 3 times and they have always been excellent.

It'll be around £45pm if you pay on a month-to-month basis; slightly less if you pay for the whole year up-front.

I think the full BMW extended warranty + assist is worthwhile - personally I would do maximum excess (as it tends to make a big difference to the premium and I view it that I'd be happy to pay £300 towards a new gearbox or even an £800 EGR bill, etc. - for me it is about managing the risk of the really big ticket items). I would pay annually unless you know you are getting rid of it (some do monthly to avoid the step increase after 60k miles - not sure if it does dodge that bullet these days)... Of course, you'll probably never need it - but that's insurance - you take your chances - BMW make money from selling it, but if you are the unlucky person whose engine lets go then you'll be glad you had it...

Thanks guys. I'm on 56000 miles now so should I expect quite a high price as 60k is just around the corner?

The price does go up once you get past 60k. But the price you are quoted is based on the mileage now, so it probably won't be that bad
IIRC, you can get a quote from the online tool, no need to speak to anyone to do that, no hard sell, etc |

I would get it as soon as possible as the price goes up dramatically when your car hits 60k miles for some reason, I had it on my E92 & once the car hit 60k the premium nearly doubled in price.
I had 2 claims in the 5 years I had the car with no problems when trying to claim, probably only broke even in the end but at least there were no massive repair bills, if I hadn't taken out the policy I would have had one £2000 bill & an £800 bill. I will be taking it out again once my 440i gets to 3 years old. |

You won't find any online, you'll need to contact them and they'll give you a login.
Definitely take out monthly if you're at 56K though, it'll cost slightly more but won't increase (other than with inflation). |

I paid the yearly payment of £339 for the comprehensive cover with a £250 excess. I didn't need the roadside assistance as I already have RAC cover through another insurance package.

Gents, the last time I used the warranty there was a steep rise after 50,000 miles not 60k and I don't suspect that has changed.
Also, if you take it out for the whole year, if you cancel during the year, provided you haven't made a claim that year, you get a pro-rata refund. By year 8, (fifth year of having the warranty and at 70,000 miles I was told that you wouldn't get full cover on certain items because of age and mileage (turbo for example) so it is of questionable value after the age of six. |

I took out comp warranty a few months back and it's £57 per month with £100 excess (I think) including breakdown.
Some like the peace of mind and some don't bother. Some will self insure. For me, I prefer peace of mind, however my 330d is on 48k and never missed a beat so far...but you never know. |
