MPPSK and insurance

Hey guys.

My apologies as I know this has been discussed numerous times. Just had a query. I already have an appointment to install this on Friday.

My insurance broker is quote me happy. It’s all online and when I try to make changes to my policy, I can select this mod: exhaust system upgrade, cosmetic and performance. I have added this to my policy without any penalty.

There are other options such as engine map, after market exhaust, etc. but I can’t select them as they can’t be covered. I have sent them an email with a link to MPPSK and asked them if the policy covers this. While I did it to have peace of mind, I also think I may have shot myself in the foot. I’m afraid they will come back to me and refuse cover. Then it will be back to the drawing board. My insurance is already £2200 and I don’t want to pay anymore. Other insurers like lv, admiral just won’t give me a quote.

Any thoughts guys.

Hi. Unfortunately Admiral wouldn’t even offer me a quote for my stock 440i. If I use gocompare or compare the market with the mods included, I get no quotes at all.

Mine's an extra £60 a year with LV. When I called LV to get the policy amended I mentioned both the exhaust and engine changes. This is how they described the MPPSK in the schedule:

If you get it port installed and it's part of the sticker maybe it will already be included based on retail value with it installed.

I will give LV a call if my own insurer refuses. Thanks for mentioning the mod options. Flux direct has given me a quote for 1000. Their excess is 3000 though. I guess I will keep looking.

In the states we have port installed m performance parts. When you order the car with the parts installed at the port of entry you can do things like finance it with the car. If it's included on the sticker like an option and you are financing it with the car they may see it as an option like a moonroof and just included it in the insurance replacement cost.

Try ringing them - they’re Aviva owned and we’re with Aviva who would quote on the MPPSK - they just had to take the details and then quickly speak with their underwriter. Our insurance then shows pretty much as RobUK’s above

Personally, if I was already having to pay £2200 on insurance I wouldn't consider tuning the car - it significantly narrows the insurers that would be prepared to cover you and as a result you are likely to pay a lot more now and in subsequent renewals (assuming your current insurer was the cheapest when you renewed)... I would find the insurance cost first before buying a mod and that will tell you how much the mod is really costing you over 3 years but ETTO...

Flux does seem to be the go to place for people struggling to insure modded cars - and at £1000 in 3 years time that saving over your current will have more than paid for the £3000 excess (assuming you have 1 claim), so it isn't all bad... Have you rung Flux to see if there is a better option that works for you - lower excess/higher premium? You may be able to take out another policy that covers you for the excess - that may be worth looking at in your situation too...

The increase with Privilege was around £40 pa from memory. On the paperwork under Modifications, it records:
-Engine - Remap
-Exhaust (Stainless Steel - No Increase in BHP)

They have not answered my email yet. It looks like they only have a number for claims and not general queries. I have updated my policy online which car mods that read "exhaust changes, cosmetic and performance". Sometimes I think its best to keep hush about it and I have technically informed them. But it wouldn't let me select another option that reads "BHP increase 0-10%". Might ring their claims number and see if they will talk to me.

You could guess my my commitment to installing this from the fact that I will be travelling to Coopers in Durham from Manchester on Friday and need to reach there by 8:50am. I am really looking forward to it. But I am also over 40 and sometimes think its too late for things like this.

But you really make a lot of sense. 2000 is pushing it. It was only in December that I bought the car and nobody was insuring me at all. Its because I was here in the uk for less than a year. Now when I get a quote for a stock 440i with my details, I get a lot reasonable rates. Most are between 1000-1500 per year. I am very tempted to go with Flux because it would ultimately save me money in the long run. I am hoping not to make more than one claim in 3 years. I drive like a granny.

But will see what flux says on the phone.

Thanks, I checked for an online quote just now, 2200 a year and no option to select mods. I guess I have a few phone calls to make.

Thanks. I have already bought the car but itching to get this mod. The base car feels a bit held back even on normal driving. Its like the PC games that get released, with a dlc to follow that you need to buy to fully enjoy the game.

You'd probably be better off in a M3 than tuning you 440i at those premiums?
Note much help I realize but just for fun try an online insurer and see.... Make sure you report back the results.

Na man, prefer the M2 Competition as M3 shape doesn't do it for me! But the M2 is too girly (if that's a word and sorry if i sounds gender biased). Cant afford it any way. the 440 is on PCP and the closest thing to an M4 that I can afford at the moment.

Checked compare the market just for laughs and M3 2200 pa, M2 1800pa from quotemehappy and M850i for 2300 :thumsup from Flux direct.

Not easy to drive for a newcomer in the UK. My younger brother who is in his early thirties and more reckless with always 3 points on his license pays 400. The only difference is that he has been driving in the UK for ten years. So there is hope things will get better over time.

They should release just the tune for free like Tesla does. Free update with more power over the air.

Hey again guys, just wondering if anyone with PCP had this issue with bmwfs.

I asked them if I can install the MPPSK. A bloke on the phone said that its fine as long as I am able to restore the car to stock if I am VT'ing or returning the car at the end of the contract.

This is very inconvenient because I would need to find a place to keep the stock exhaust somewhere in my flat...

Is uninstall even possible?

Hope you joking, as most dealers will give you interest free* finance on it.

I am.

I never saw an apr this high in my life. People fall for this?

I already installed my MPPSK yesterday from coopers Durham. Drove from Manchester and reached them for 8am. The car was ready by 1pm and it was an entirely different experience driving back to Manchester. Enjoyed every bit of it. The wife said somethings wrong with the car’s “silencer”. I just feigned ignorance and told her “it always sounded like this love”.

Coopers told me that I should take it to a local dealer to update the DME. Any one done this?

Bargain that - I was just thinking to myself "Where could I borrow £1000 for a year and pay back £5350 in interest?" You've saved me the trouble of looking

If you work out the repayments on that, all you would need to do is save for two months to get more than the original £1,000 loan lol.
