F30 Wheel Size - 400M Vs. 403M
Hi All,
For the M-sport package, I'm looking into two cars having slightly different configuration in terms of wheel size. One is 18 (400M) and the other is 19 (403M). I was wondering if you are all happy with either? Any issues with going with a 19 in terms of road noise and ride quality? It should be a little stiffer I guess but does the stiffness add to the driving pleasure given the light steering? Just curious, thanks!

I ordered mine with the 400m 18" wheels, but mine are staggered. Very happy with mine. I might be one of the few who dislike the appearance of the 403m. I would rather get some aftermarket wheels.

I've still got my "stock" staggered 18" wheels and summer tires (runflats); when the runflats wear out, I may get some CSL-style wheels, again in 18", due to their lower cost and better ride, not to mention less susceptibility to damage from road hazards. I'll be replacing the runflats with non-runflats and an M-mobility kit (I kept the one I had in my previous car).

Have the 403M, and even looking to get some 20".
No issues with the 19"

Love the 400M's in 18....use them on street and track, 18x8 in front and 18x8.5 in rear, and I opted for this over 19" because of road noise/pot holes in northeast (my wife's already bent 2 from last winter!)
With a drop, looks hot:

I have the staggered 19s on my 335 and like them a lot. I think the staggered 18s would be nice too. a bit lighter and cheaper tires. I definitely would avoid the 18 square setup with 225 wide tires. Not enough traction and the tires look too narrow for the car when look from the rear |

Love the 403Ms on 335 m sport, my only complaint is the ride can be a bit harsh (don't have DHP). Pilot super sports will be my next tire, they will be around $850

So looks like most people are okay with either. I will probably test drive both cars back to back and then think about it. Thanks for replying everyone!

I also don't have to worry about bubbles in the RFTs as much and when new tire time comes around 18s have a larger selection than 19s. I also can't stand ultra low profile tires in either road feel or looks.

I am riding on 19s and the biggest improvement in ride quality came when I switched out the run flat tires. Literally felt like a different car.

I have the 19 inch on my M-sport and definitely feel that the car looks better. No problems with the roads around here - haven't buried any wheels in potholes or anything.
Keep in mind that the summer performance tires allow for the car to be programmed for the higher speed limiter if that is important to you. Never would see it, but it is nice to think that the car could run to 155 mph if there was room enough. 18 inch all seasons would result in a 130 mph limiter. |
