Tread Separation & Unsafe ??
Need an opinion on whether pics of my tires are exhibiting Tread Separation.
These are front passenger and driver side Bridgestone S001 RFTs, 225/40R 19, both with +35k miles, on a 2015 435i with staggered set up. Mileage on car is 39k. I know these need replacement due to thin treads near the edges of the side wall, but are these Unsafe to Drive On (ie, up to 50 mph), +50 miles until replacement ? A reputable Euro Auto Repair in SW Florida said these were unsafe. I had some unrelated maintenance (leaking valve cover replaced) performed at the same facility ~500 miles prior, and there was no mention of these being unsafe. At that time the tech indicated that front thrust arm bushings are split, need replacement, and straight arm bushings have failed due to thrust arm failure. Thanks in advance for your feedback. |

Agree that there is more tread life left on the tire.
Here is another pic of the inside of the passenger side tire. It may be hard to tell from a photo, but experienced advisor said this indicates tread separation. He sees this more often in our area of SW Florida where vehicles are not driven for 6 mos or more, as is mine. Though, I've used Flatstoppers under all wheels when I store in my garage for extended period when away during the Summer months. Anybody out there have a similar experience with Tread Separation ?? |

even though you are above the 2/32 wear bar the rubber looks "shot", especially at the shoulders. i'd get new tires as soon as practicable.

It's the outside shoulders that are the problem with those tires. Either you corner hard or your alignment needs to be straightened out. There is a little life left, but once you start seeing the cords or rubber or peeling, get them off of the car asap.

Safety has no price. Suggest to replace these tires as soon as you can. Your sense of safety is the only one that truly matters.
My previous vehicle has Bridgestone S001 RFTs. These tires lasted 25K miles. |
