18x9.5 +38 Square setup F30 *TIRES?*

Hey everyone, just purchased a new set of rims for my F30 335i xDrive.. the new setup is 18x9.5 +38 squared..

I'm on Billstein Coilovers, I'm looking for input on what size of tires I should run?.. was thinking 255/35/18 and also what tires you guys recommend have had a few people direct me to the Firestone Indy 500's.

Thanks a lot!!

Also for tires it depends on where you live and what you drive in. I recently just ordered dws06 continentals all season tires good price for reviews do great in summer and alright in rain and snow.

Don't forget that you need a 3-5mm spacer up front to clear the strut.

Thanks for this info.. this would be mandatory? I know this is a rather aggressive squared setup

Yes, otherwise this whole thing is a non-starter. You need to clear the strut to drive the car.

oem diameter for 3/4 series is 26".

255/35/18 is 25". your car will be 1/2" lower due to sidewall height and you'll have to lower your car 1/2" more to have the same gap.

you'll also be accruing 400more miles every 10000 and your speedo will read 5mph high. indicating 65 but going 60. your acceleration from a dig should be better since you're shortening the gearing. if you're happy with all of this, have at it.

i'd just stick with oem size 255/40/18

Wow, thanks for all the info haha!

Yeah I'm fine with all that relatively.. will take some dialling in of fitment etc.

You would say 255/40/18 over 35 sidewall? I'll still clear fine with the 40?

Thank you!

i understand yours is 18" but just see this for reference.

slicer has 19x9.5" ET35 with 255/35/19(26")
https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=16

i think the problem you'll have is not the tire but the wheel lip touching the strut. yours will be approximately 3mm closer than slicers. does it look like there's over 3mm of space on slicers?

i think you may need a 3mm spacer up front. 255/40/18 ET38 will not contact the spring perch or strut.

a 3mm front spacer will put your wheel lip where slicers is

Sounds good, yeah I'll have to get a couple 3mm spacers for the front 2 too allow clearance

245/50/19? that would be way too tall, it won't even fit within the fenderwell arch and tire well.

what is the offset (also called ET) of your wheels?

I have the exact same spec wheels.
Run 255/40
And you'll for sure need a 5mm spacer up front at least. I barely have enough space even with a 5mm. Im on ST coils.
For tires, it depends on your budget but I personally run Michelin PS4S.
Lmk if you need a pic for reference.

5mm will be good enough to clear the front strut. I have probably a hair left before my tire hits the strut but so far, no issues even in dips or uneven surfaces.
And sure, here are some pics of my current set up.

Love the wheels! I bought the Gram Lights also in Mag Blue.. best colour in my opinion.. nice looking setup, was hoping it would be a pretty aggressive "track style" look

Oh it's definitely aggressive alright. So much so that I was rubbing on the front
So yeah, 255/40 will work best IMO. That's also what majority of the people run anyways.
