B58 Exhaust Options

Hello everyone, Ive had my 340i for a couple months now and the first thing i did was get a dual resonator delete and in my opinion thats how it should have came from factory. Today I installed an ER catless downpipe and all I can say is wow. Its really loud and the turbo whistle after letting go of the gas is just beautiful. One problem I have is that the tone of the exhaust isnt smooth. Some people may like that but i personally like less rasp and drony tones. Im thinking about putting my long resonator back on and maybe buying an aftermarket valved axleback as the stock one doesnt really do its job right. Im asking if anyone can recommend a valved axleback system that when it is closed sounds very quiet but when it opens, it sounds nice and deep and as clean as possible.

i believe Bmw's MPE or Remus are the only other valved axle backs. i'd get the REMUS

sorry, armytrix and awe switchpath have valves also. there may be others

Thank you for your responses, do you guys think I should put my long resonator back on. In a couple days once my intake arrives i will retune my car with an e40 map and im not trynna sound childish but im hoping to shoot flames with an aggressive burble setting. Do you guys think the resonator will prevent or give it trouble with shooting flames.

Thanks for the response. I read that your car was mpe + dual res delete + er. Did you shoot flames and did you try it after with the resonator installed.

never had my resonators in when i was catless, however , i did shoot flames when I had a Jb4 with e85. it all depends on your tune setup if you'll shoot flames or not

You might like how my car sounds, it's pretty mellow and isn't raspy or snap crackle pop. Overall was very happy with it.

CG Catted DP
AWE Mid-Pipe (with added resonator) to AWE Axle-Back.

They key here was that I had an additional resonator installed (like is on the 320i mid-pipe).

Ya it sounds good, but where I live the police hate car enthusiasts so i have no other option but to pick up an exhaust system with a valve. If i lived anywhere else I would do your setup except catless since the smell doesnt bother me.

Missing resonators is what makes it raspy, and it shouldn't prevent flames. Resonators have a straight through design. Add the OEM one back in or choose a vibrant resonator to mellow down the tone.

I would put the resonators back and get the REMUS axle back for a more refined and deeper tone

I have a catless DP with Remus axleback and dual resonator delete. It's raspy. Don't know about compared to the stock muffler though because the resonator delete is the final mod I did. The Remus muffler is ridiculously expensive for the 5% gain in volume. At least there's no drone

I take back about it being raspy. I just had a friend drive it by for me and it heard it from the outside. Actually sounds pretty good.

Sounds great. Did the remus muffler make the tone deeper, less raspy? Overall how else did it affect the exhaust other than the 5% increase in volume?

It does sound deeper than the stock muffler. Still no real drone to speak of except at 3k rpm which isn't a cruising rpm and even then it's not bad at all

I thought it was raspy based on the tone from the inside but it actually isn't. The outside tone can be described as throaty. I'm happy with the sound and I'm going to stop here

Thats what i like about the REMUS exhaust, its not loud when you are driving the car conservatively. But once you get on it, its very aggressive.

I can vouch for this. I bought a Remus Axleback on your site for mine, I love how quiet it is (now my neighbors don't bitch at me like they did my F30 N55 with a Muffler Delete) when it starts up and driving normally, but soon as you gun it, it gets very loud and aggressive.
