I looked at the Model 3 then I went online to see how many Tesla supercharger locations there were in the 4600sq miles of Yorkshire, 3 yes that's right 3, all clustered in a narrow corridor from Leeds to Sheffield.

We'll all have to buy one on day but not for me at the moment.

Having joined the UK Tesla forum, it's clear that no-one has the faintest idea when cars will arrive - not even Tesla UK. Compared to the experience of established car companies like BMW, it's a complete shambles. I suspect I'll get mine (if I don't cancel) by end Sept/Oct - but that's only a guess. Tesla website is still saying August if you order today! That's clearly just fantasy!

Thankfully I don't have a PCP to worry about so the date isn't critical to me.

I don't think a 300 mile journey should be a no-no - so long as you can plan a stop for about 30 mins at a supercharger location. There is a reasonable network of them on major routes.

Yeah, that's a concern I have too. Tesla's generally chaotic delivery process doesn't install confidence.

Tesla salesman, trying sell me their hedgehog on wheels (Model X). 30K down, £600 a month for 48 months and £40K GFV. I just laughed. All he kept telling me was how much more I'm paying for fuel and that I've brought a dinosaur (G31).

Not mad at all. All the Teslas look a bit weird but most modern saloons do anyway. Don't really like the new 3 series or the spy shots for the 4. Just love the tech side of the Tesla.

I am trying to book a test drive at the Cambridge dealership for a Model 3. I will be going for a lease through Octopus EV as a company car as BIK rates are 0% for April 2020. Tesla forums are awash with chaotic deliveries which isn't great but this seems normal! I will wait a few more months before placing any order, hopefully for a delivery 5 April 2020

Now need to work out what to do for home charging...

Congrats, not mad, great car, if it meets your journey needs (which obviously it will as you've ordered one!)

I must look at Octopus EV. At present I've put an application in for the Tesla PCP (Black Horse), but I need to look at alternatives. I might even go straight loan since the residual isn't great (£17k after 4 years from a £47k invoice!).

Tesla has one factory trying to meet demand globally, in addition to hitting delivery targets.

BMW have factories every where.

Before the introduction of the 3 Tesla delivery estimates were pretty accurate, but the volume of the 3 is on a different level.

I suspect once the China factory comes on line European delivery times will settle.

However the Model Y and Pickup truck will both have massive demand in the US, and its likely Tesla will scale back RHD production to meet their own internal market demand first.

Personally I would wait till the Pickup appears before ordering a 3, Tesla have been working on next gen lithium ion chemistry for a few years now, all the suggestions seem to be it'll improve energy density by at least 25% if not 50%, so 400 mile+ real life range.

Its likely the new pack will appear in the next gen S/X, but Tesla pushes out system wide tech advances really quickly. If you don't need a new car right now I would sit tight for another 12 months.......

The big unknown Brexit, the £ tanked on the EU vote, and that pushed us to order the X, Tesla have since put up UK prices by 10-15%. If hard Brexit happens and the £ reaches parity with $ it may be wise to order and pay before the current changes is reflected in the price.

We haven't ordered a 3 yet, but will do for my wife, am keeping a close eye on the Brexit stuff and if needed too we'll order in October. Extra range from a new battery design would be nice to have, but 300 miles is already enough for us, and I rather pay £50k for a current spec Performance 3 than £60k for a newer one with range we don't need/use.

Surely any vast improvements in batteries would be offered as either a free or paid upgrade to existing owners?

Heard Tesla slashed the base price of Model 3 to £37500?

https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/tes...-grant-3266047

With that fuel range makes an attractive proposition

I am really interested in the model 3, I think it is a bit early to be my next car with the charging infrastructure but I could well be buying one in 3 or 4 years time, I am a member of the Tesla model 3 reservations group on Facebook, I recommend you join it is very informative.

All reservation holders have had a price reduction e-mail.

Thats what I'm going to do wait till next year.

Through a limited company writing off profits, how much better in the pocket are you really?

Tesla have said in the past, but am sceptical, they are a company after all and why sell you an battery retrofit when they can sell you a whole new car.

Tesla previous pricing didn't make it clear the £3500 EV grant hadn't been factored in. This weeks price changes 'slashed' by about £900 on the actual price of Model 3, whilst S/X prices have gone up about £5k to £84k starting price, though thats for the LR version.

Over on the Tesla forum, there is a fair amount of moaning from people who have had the prices tweaked on their orders. Sometimes it's gone down, sometimes up. For example, lots of people had ordered black since it was the zero-priced base colour, but now it's a £950 option. Meanwhile, anyone who ordered pearl white has found their order price drop by £1500 since white is the new black and it's the new zero-priced base colour!

Meanwhile, changes to the performance model following the re-introduction of the twin-motor long-range model mean that many are now paying more, unless they ordered before they withdraw the twin-motor long-range model in which case they're paying less.

All clear? Welcome to Elon Musk's world!

That's pretty much how Tesla work, the price on our current X changed twice between orderband pick up. Prices of retrofit stuff, like CCS adaptor/HEPA filter/AP activation also change constantly, and even productions spec changes over night with no warning. I missed out on AP 2.5 hardware by 7 days.

If you cannot get your head around how Tesla work I would suggest cancelling your order now, Tesla functions like a tech company more than a car company!

Personally I accept all this, and have no issues with ordering another Tesla, but lots of people just cannot get use to how they work as a company. I just don't get the moaning, no one forces anyone to order a Tesla, there are plenty of other EVs now coming, if you don't like Tesla as a company, don't get one, quite simple really. Cancelling your order can be done online, takes literally one mouse click, so rather than moan I don't get why people just don't cancel?

iPace preg reg/demo cars are now just above £55k, so hardly any more expensive and available as stock orders right now. VAG will have plenty of EVs coming, BMW not so much. Still its no hardship to cancel your Model 3 order and wait to see what other choices come. I predict by Xmas your be able to pick up an inventory performance Model 3 order for a discount anyways.

As I've said we're 100% getting another EV at somepoint to replace my wifes Lexus. But am in no rush to commit to any brand, our last few cars in the house hold have been Honda, BMW, Nissan, Lexus, Tesla, we have no brand loyalty or attachment. The Performance Model 3 though is simply the top candidate by a long way, but I cannot see the point of rushing to order one now till the Brexit situation resolves it self, by than we'll have a better idea what other brands are going to offer to challenge the 3.

As consumers the choice for EVs in the £40k price point is simply going to explode, which is fantastic .

Not mad at all pdk42 - I think you've made a good choice. Electric propulsion is pretty compelling (based on a model X test drive). Our next car will be electric.

The Model 3 is a great proposition as the competition is limited - I'd be taking a look at the Kia e-Niro and Hyundai Kona electric as well in that market. Appreciate availability is tough on those two, though.

I would take a serious look at the Merc option too, looks really well sorted, and not a rush job like the iPace. Pricing is higher than Model 3 but I suspect on PCP/lease wouldn't be that much different.
