From the finance view actually deprecation is by far the biggest cost to car ownership, a 5 year old 335i would loss alot is in depreciation than a new Model 3. Equally our Lexus is currently only doing 5k per year, thats barely over £600 a year on fuel, and with it been £20/VED, a new Model 3 luxury car tax payment is more!!

However when I see reviews like this I am tempted to try and persuade my wife to swap the Lexus for a Model 3. Point to point on public roads I cannot see anything you can buy been any quicker, the lack of 'drama' Tiff complains about is more AWD/amazing TC on the Tesla than anything else. I don't miss the noise or the gears in the my 335i, but I do miss the playful back end, and the respect you had to give the loud pedal when exiting a corner with bad camber/rain.

The AWD system on our X is perfect for family duties, blistering quick, safe, predictable, all the stuff you want when ferrying around the brood, but for final bit of adrenaline you need RWD, hence I personally would order a RWD big battery Model 3 rather than the AWD version even though AWD is quicker without doubt.

I'll take the Alfa thank you very much.

If that comes in at anywhere near £50k I'll eat my 4 Series. Not a chance.

It will. But it won’t look like that.. probably £53k for a basic model, £60k with a few extras...

Even at £60K with decent options thats a 'better' buy than a £50K Tesla Model 3.

As far as I can see that is an Audi E Tron GT concept car, said to be a direct rival to the Porsche Taycan, and also rumoured to have a starting price of £100k.

Just look at the photos, when did a £50k car ever look like that, never mind an electric one with a premium attached.

Why would Audi sell that in the same price bracket as the cheapest Tesla when to look at the cars are chalk and cheese.

If you save your money for that, you'd better double up what you're putting away.

There is a Q4 E-tron on the way, assumed that was the A5 sportback version of the same thing. Now based on predicted price for Q4 E-tron and current difference between A5 and Q5, 60k would be right ballpark.

Audi will struggle with a car with a list price over £100k, just like BMW do...

Only time will tell but I'm with Alex on this one. IMO there's next to no chance of the car gangzoom posted a picture of hitting the showrooms for circa £50k - personally I'd be surprised if it was much if at all below £60k and that's before you start adding options....

I'm sure they will.

I didn't assume though, I googled what it was, and it's an E Tron GT to rival Porsches top end offering.

I'm sure Audi will have cheaper options in the pipeline, they just won't look like that does.

The current S5 coupe looks fab, I see no reason why Audi cannot do the same for the EV version. One thing is pretty clear, BMW really need to up their game on both looks and drivetrain tech.

They might, but my point is the picture you posted isn't it. And it won't be pitched at the same price point as the Model 3. Audi have said so themselves. It's an electric GT model aimed higher, it's been developed jointly with the Porsche version.

I've looked through recent press releases and can't see anything on more entry level stuff from Audi, other then the Q4 E Tron, and that's hardly entry level.

I stand to be corrected if you've seen different, but if not, I'll believe what I've seen Audi say and not wild speculation on here.

I think the OP have cancelled their Model 3 order which is fully understandable and the sensible thing to do, but on days like this I do wonder how we ever managed with cars that cannot warm/cool them selves on demand. It's fab been able to get into a lovely cool car for the drive home .

Seriously jealous! I did cancel but I'm still convinced that EVs are the future, and not just for environmental reasons.

Forget the environment its the tech thats fab. Am still amazed our car can 'see' a motorbike following a car ahead of me as well as my eyes!!

Buying a Model 3 right now really isn't the most 'sensible' thing to do, but lets be honest none of us are that sensible with money and cars or else we all be driving Dacias .

I couldn't honestly go back to owing any other car with less tech!!

I don't think you're mad at all, if you go through with it, it would be really cool to see you do a first 500-esque post on here talking about how you got on with it, and what changed when switching from your old car!

I'd think I'd go electric on load lugger for economic reasons - providing the range anxiety is resolvable and the quality/reliability are similar.

On the last swap where I was looking for a car for the OH+young adults, the s/h diesel won out because the electric would have been another £7.5k to buy and £1200 pa on the insurance, mainly because the golf Mk7 has crash prevention as standard and is cheaper to fix.

The other issue is the EV reliability - The Tesla gets 3 stars for 0-3 years and there after 1 star - and it takes Tesla an age to fix, according to Which? (and several friends that have one). BMW is 4 stars and when Ive had a problem it been fixed in 24hrs - not withstanding the EGR recall, which resulted in a nice Disco 3ltr for 7 weeks!

EV will never be a weekend car or trackday car for me, but getting down to one autonomous EV for work, and the EV earning its keep in the 'downtime' is surely not that far away?

Congratulations, looking forward to the hearing about trials and tribulations of owning and electric car.

How long is the waiting list now, hope you haven’t delayed to much with the change?

The thing is, the Model 3 is FAR cheaper than the new 3 series. You can get the Performance Edition for £403 a month with a £6k deposit and 10k miles a month. You can't get anywhere near that with a M340i which is probably the most comparable in terms of performance and equipment.

If the price is similar in 2-3 years the Model 3 will definitely be on my list I think.
