F31 guys – Where's the OEM carrier bars?

I just picked up a 2015 F31 M Sport (loving it so far, thank you very much). However, it seems like the OEM carrier bars are scarce or simply unavailable through "official" channels.

I'm talking about part# 82712350124

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=82_1607

Anyone know if it's going to be phased out and replaced with something else? Is it too new? I can find it from third party sellers, but I don't want to get one if it'll be replaced with some kind of uprated version soon.

Here's my car btw.

Have you considered the Thule bars? I'd recommend the Thule AeroBlade Edge 7602 ones. I haven't compared them to the OEM ones, but they appear to be lower than the OEM giving a more streamline look.

I don't have any measurements but here are some pics of how the look with a cargo box.

Back when I had my M Coupe, the OE bars were made by Thule but regular Thule bars sat lower, I'd imagine that's still the case.

Between Yakima, Thule and Saris, I can't think of a reason to run the OE bars.

I just received the OEM BMW roof rack. I am very impressed with the quality of the product. Putting them on and taking them off is very simple without the need for any tools. I think the part number you mentioned is the newer one that supercedes the old part number ending in 21. I think the difference is the little spoilers on the front bar at the bottom. Don't quote me on that as I am basing that based on pictures I have seen.

I got it off eBay new and was less than half the price of the Thule bars which come in black and sit a bit lower look cool and all that. But you can always wrap the OEM ones in black vinyl wrap if that is your thing. OEM Racks are noisy like all other racks I have placed above 40 miles an hour with the Sunroof cover open. With it closed the noise comes in at about 75 to 80 mph. There is no real way around the noise.

What also caught my attention was the roof rack from this Italian company called Modula cargo. They have ones that fit the F31. I am in talks with them to get one shipped to see if they clear the shark fin antenna on the top with a cargo box.

I believed the OEM rack made by Thule and the quality is pretty good, I had mine set up with OEM base rack and Thule for the bike racks.

The OEM ones are only 200 bucks. Considering how infrequently I plan on using them that's reason enough for me!

Agreed! Plus OEM's are made by Thule. As per another post on here.

The 124 version has been available since 07/14, the 291 version was ended 02/15. The "official" sellers still carry the 291, not sure why they wouldn't show the new one.

It seems 124, in addition to F31, is also compatible with F45, which is probably the reason for the new part. For F31, I would guess both 291 and 124 would work.

Newbie here. 3 questions that I'd appreciate your feedback:

1) if you choose the OEM bars, can you put a Thule cargo box without an issue or much hassle?

2) the OEM bars are priced $240 compared to Thule bars in the $500 range. If the OEM ones are made by Thule, what are the advantage of the Thule bars, E.g. aero blade edge 7602?

3) after several year's use of whatever bars or cargo box that you have, would you change your selection?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't spec out a F31 M sport only to skimp on the rack I put on it... Another vote for a Thule rack here. Load bars on F31 look better than the flush imo.

Size: 259.6 KBThe nice thing about the Thule bars is that you will be able to use them on your future cars by simply changing out the fit kit......also, I think they sit much lower and gives a sleeker look

Thanks for everyone's feedback. As I am so new to this, I will probably just buy Thule and have them installed at REI during its sales. Thanks again.
