F30 value after G20 comes out

Predictions?

Do you think all F30 cars lose significant value when the G20 comes out, or will it not affect it much?

Previous generation cars usually lose more value when a new generation is introduced as long as the new generation is priced similarly to the previous generation when new.

Why don't you go to the E9x forum and lookup the "will E9x lose ..." thread and read that?

I think the glut of BMWs on the market will continue to be much more of a contributing factor than a new generation release.

Either way, good time to be a used car buyer

While the G20 release is definitely going to hit values, there are just so many F30's on the road at this point that I can't say (nobody can) how much impact it'll have beyond standard market behaviors. The used market is already flooded with cars coming off lease, mind you we've still got a few years of leases expiring with those cars being added. The F30 will suffer like any other mass produced car, once it's primarily a used market there is no newer model year to prop up the average price, and nothing but pricing cuts to keep someone from buying the same car from the other dozen places that have one.

Because I was just trying to start a fun discussion, not get actual information lol. I already assume that it will, but I wanted to hear other's opinions on the matter.

You can already get F30 cars with clean title for about $12k

There will always be a demand for a good car that is well maintained. I wouldn't worry about it much.

It probably will because of that little M badge that will be in front of the 340i, but if you're leasing i guess it shouldn't matter... at least for me because i don't mind getting the M340i or even a M3 when my lease ends in 3 years.

I keep cars until they die. My 2010 335d has 130K miles on it. My wife's 2014 328d has 45K on it - only reason she'd sell it is for all the safety features - pedestrian detection, side view, etc. - for a new one.

My opinion is: I don't care a whit.

Why single out BMW or the 3 series. All volume built cars tank in value. I recently say a 3 year old Cadillac XTS that must have retailed for $55Kselling at a dealer for under $20K.

My plan is o order a new 2018 340i RWD 6MT before the window closes on the F30 last day of July according to my dealer.
I figure the car will hold decent value being the last of the 6MTs.

and I dont give a wit...I want fun

Yeah because the mainstream car buying public gives a shit whether its the E46, E90 or F30. This statement has zero basis in reality, other than your bias because you drive an E90. F30s are depreciating around the same rate that just about any used luxury sport sedan has. High rate of depreciation for the 1st 5 years and then it evens out. As if the E90 is holding its value better because it has brick heavy steering, ultra outdated tech and iDrive and an inefficient straight 6 with a 6 speed slushbox thats like molasses... because used car buyers are totally on the lookout for cars like that. You nailed it

+1. Agree completely.

Sometimes people are delusional about how much the car they own is worth.

Agreed. I think most of us have fallen into that enthusiast mindset where we think it's this but the reality is far from it - until you're in the industry and realize that the general public frankly does not really care about the number of cylinders, manual vs. Automatic, E90 vs. F30, etc. Go look back at all the "My manual is going to be worth a premium" threads. Barring a few in states like California, people realize that it really isn't worth a premium.

I think the biggest factor of the F30 value has more to do with the surplus of supply of F30s than the introduction of the G20. For the first time that I could remember, BMW is offering a higher credit/incentive to finance vs Leasing. This rarely happens, if ever.

It's not gonna matter… BMWs lose a ton of money every year regardless if new generation is released or not.

I’m not concerned with what the general car buying public sees the 3 series as - that’s completely irrelevant. The E chassis BMW’s have held their value better, period. I’m even less concerned about the resale value of vehicles which compete with the F30 because they are also all shit in that regard.
dude what are you even talking about right now? Currently 2009 328i with 100k miles or so and clean title go for anywhere between $6 - 8000, on Craigslist in my area. They are a dime a dozen and I mean, dude, say $7000 on average. Seven grand? Not exactly the red Ferrari from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.. What am I missing. Its a used BMW for $7000.

It is clear you think the F30 is shit but the thing is no one cares what you think. Unless your personal opinion regarding whether a car is shit or not has some impact on the overall used car market, maybe you should just take your ball and go home.

Doesn't this dude know he could actually get like $20k for this thing??

I think the ad was posted by someone who just doesn't realize the value of a "big turn up". Or. Wait. No, big turnips. I was thinking about giant turnips. Crap. He'll be lucky to get $6600.

Will it also impact the 4 series? like 440? Or mostly the F30?
