Yes the brake dust is extreme yet no squealing as of 1300 miles.

I've also suggested a few fixes that should help ease your frustration. inability on your part to do the simplist of these is what I call laziness. You can also take it into the dealer so the technician can "fix" it for you (I put quotes as this isn't really a problem). Friction is rarely silent, the noise can be easily decreased by changing the compounds in the pads, but at the price of performance.

I bedded my brakes on day one. And I doubt that my unwillingness to remove the wheels on a brand new $50k+ car, sand my pads, apply brake quiet, and clean/relube contact points would be characterized as "lazy" by any reasonable person. Or "the simplest" of things to do.
And I also must respectfully disagree that loud squealing from my brakes isn't really a problem or a shortcoming. Squealing brakes is a flaw, not a feature. I'm sorry, but I shouldn't have to brake at stoplights like I'm on a race track to avoid screeching brakes. This isn't a track car, it is a sedan. Quote:

Wish it let you change your vote. I now want a new poll that asks if m sport 335 is squealing and if m sport 328 is squealing. Curious if its a 335 thing.

My 335 M-Sport is squealing like HELL. Took it to BMW and they "Cleaned everything". Squealing stopped for a day and started back up AGAIN. Time to head back

I have 1400 miles on my 335i M-sport, squeaking started at about 800 miles. It has not been consistent though, some days it squeaks some days they dont. The break dust is horrible the rims hardly stay clean for a day.

As discussed numerous times already (why so many threads about the same thing?) it's a function of the pad material. The M Sport has a more aggresive pad. Aggressive pads make noise and are very dusty. If you don't like it, have the pads changed to standard non-M Sport pads. Some prefer performance. Others comfort/convenience. Unfortunately, brake pad selection is an excercise in compromise. A new set of M-sport pads will not resolve this. It is not a defect or flaw.
A couple of excerpts from some pad manufacturers: Hawk: "Sometimes a user may experience brake noise when no maintenance is required. We call these NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness) issues. Brake squeal is typically caused by vibration between the brake pads, rotors, and brake calipers. Some brands of semi-metallic brakes are more likely to experience brake squeal due to the metallic ingredients in the brake pads. " http://www.hawkperformance.com/performance/faq.php Wilwood: "Do you make a pad that will work equally well for both street and track use ? A: The short answer is no pad will work "best" in both environments; there will always be a compromise in one area of operation. Pads are asked to do a number of different tasks in different situations. The following are things you should consider to help you pick the best pad. Stopping performance when cold. How well does the pad grip on the first stop when the system is at ambient temperature? Stopping performance when hot. How the pad reacts in higher temperature such as on the track? Pad Life. How long will the pads last in a given driving environment? Rotor Life. How aggressive is the pad on the rotor. Noise. Does the pad squeal? Dust. How much dust does the pad generate, how easy is it to clean? If you run one pad on both the street and the track, you will have to compromise performance in one way or another on all the above. This argument also doesn't explain why half the M Sports do have the issue and half don't in the poll.

And to be clear I for one am not talking about subtle light squealing. I am talking about loud screeching, the sound you'd expect when the pads actually need replacing because the indicators are yelling out for service. I was even scolded by someone for driving with brakes that needed service and had to explain that it was brand new!

Wonder if M-performance brakes would make a difference. Lately I have been considering the Red M-performance brakes added as a port-installed accessory.
Anybody with M-performance brakes have this issue?

Here's an idea of what I'm talking about: http://www.racingbrake.com/EVO-STi-T...r-p/bs1001.htm They're not listed for the F30 application, but with a little searching I'm sure someone can find them. There's only so many Brembo pad applications. Adding grease won't help. Especially since these are fixed calipers. ONLY the pads move. Nothing else. |

It's all the time. Very occasionally it's quieter but still noticeably there. And happens from around 10mph down to 0. I might try bedding the brakes as others have suggested though, just have to find a quiet high speed limit road to do this on.
