I'll give you the conservative answer
Darkest legal 35%, sides and rear, done by the dealer. It won't look ghetto and you'll have peace of mind with warranty. It's not worth the risk of letting someone else do it just to save a couple of hundred IMO.

Well I'm booked in for tinting with Ultrashade tint on 22nd Jan after I return from Echuca.
Having the top of the line Suntek CarbonXP 35 non metallic tint. Quoted $440.00 over phone but willing to do a deal. Will discuss once I'm there. Looking forward to it.

When I spoke with Philip, he immediately knew the BMW side windows have a little tint, so he made a rough verbal calculation about the legality re light transmission of the tint. He said it would be just right.

If course, I will check with him on the day.
Cheers

Sorry for late reply

I got the darkest legal on the front, and one step darker on the back.

Takes about 4hrs - you can walk down to the pool for a swim (thats what I did), or maybe visit SouthernBM around the corner to see what they're up to

See if Andrew has their F30 coding system up and running yet. Or go to work, which is what I will have to do. Pick up the car later in the day.

J1n, why don't you wait until I've had mine installed (22nd Jan - not long). I will post some pics and review. Although I'm sure everything will be as or better than expected, at least you should feel comfortable taking the day off having seen the results beforehand.

In addition, I will negotiate as best a price as possible, tell Philip that you will probably book in and hopefully you can have the tint installed at the same (maybe even less depending on tint grade) price.

Just a thought.
Cheers

Had my car's windows fitted with Carbon XP 35 at Ultrashade Tint in Moorabbin, a so called legal tint, as opposed a 25% grade tint, which, by the letter of the law, is 'illegal'.

Philip Dodds, owner of Ultrashade Tint told me most clients opt for the Carbon 25 as it's somewhat darker than the 35, but with less heat rejection. The Carbon XP does not come in 25% VLT.

So during my 10 minute drive between Moorabbin & home this afternoon, I found that the Carbon XP 35 has a nice balance between tint and light transmission.

Yes, Carbon XP 35 on all windows except for front. Not on any mirror nor on the sunroof, which is tinted anyway.

So, J1n, any movement with tinting your car yet? Gotta say the tint adds another dimension to the exterior looks of the car. Well, hopefully you will see my car when we finally meet (all being well) on Friday at CCP.

Ya was thinking the same... then I'll get a good idea of what % tint to go with. Currently I can't get any time off work clients need me around, which is a shame as I really want to get the tints done before autumn hits.. else i'll probably can go without it till Spring lol

Garage List
Over the last few years, I have had window tinting on all my recent cars done through my local BMW dealer. We have not had a single problem with any of them...........E39 540i Schnitzer, E46 M3, Mini Cooper, Mini Cooper S and now the F30 335i M-Sport.

You know that if you do happen upon some problem, the BMW dealer would fix it quickly.

Each to his own. I think most of the dealers take it to a tint shop anyway. I got mine done at Tint A Car in North Melbourne for $395 after saying no thanks to BMW Melbourne's $800 (and then their very special price of $750). Couldn't be happier with the result.

It is normal that we are all precious about our new F30s but a window tint is just that. I don't see the need to pay a premium. Mind you if BMW offered me $550 before delivery I would take it just to save me wasting half a working day.

I saw a couple of brand new Mercs with seats still in plastic sheets waiting for tints to be done when I dropped my car off.

I think after surveying prices a good tint job with quality tint can be done between 200-500
