I'm curious - did you drive in sport mode regularly such that you eventually felt like you needed even more power? Or did you want more power in Comfort mode without the steering feel of sport mode? I used to think about adding the JB+, but the power in sport mode (which I use sparingly) is so good that I dropped the idea of getting one.

Here's the status on my friends 2015 328i at 36K mile mark: (car was in shop to diagnose check engine light- car is bone stock)
Just picked up the car this afternoon. 1. Thermostat was stuck open. Replaced with a new one 2. Light blue smoke at tailpipe noticed upon cold start. Removed turbo and replaced oil supply line. 3. Valve cover gasket leaking. Replaced with a new one. 4. Oil filter gasket leaking, Replaced 5. Found stored code for high oil temp. Replaced sensor This would have been a $2-3K bill. Thankfully there was still some CPO warranty until March 2020 so only a $50 charge. The guy says the BMW has to use a certain amount of bio-degradable components (soy -based plastic) and they don't hold up well over time and wear. He say that it typically take more than $2K per year to maintain this car properly after warranty runs out. Car has only 36K miles. I'm now wondering about an extended warranty plan! |

Not true at all. See my recent thread about my 2012 328i that just crossed 100k miles. Other posters on this forum have also reported far fewer $/yr maintaining their cars outside warranty.

From the posts on these forums, it seems to me that leaky gaskets are more common in the 6 cylinder engines. Perhaps due to higher pressure/loads. I see very few posts of leaky gaskets on the 4 cyl engines. Anecdotally, my car's original gaskets are just fine at 101k.

2013 335i bought at 61430 a year and a half ago and currently have about 66800. Added a bm3 stage 1 at 65320 miles. Only changed sparks, oil(twice), bm3, and charge pipe. So far so good. *knocks on wood*

2013 n55 90k miles. OFHG and oil cooler gasket was replaced at 85k. Other than that the battery will be changed soon. Nothing else major besides usual wear and tear items such as brakes, rotors and tires.

123,XXX on my '13 335i.
Aforementioned gaskets (oil filter housing, oil cooler, valve cover). Resealed the vapor barrier on driver's side (left) rear door. Used a recent crack as an excuse to replace my windshield that was pitted and pretty annoying in some angles of sunlight. Replaced rear shocks, fronts coming soon, but at my mileage, I don't see that as an issue as much as expected wear and tear. Otherwise, have had no real issues. Normal maintenance (oil, filters, plugs, coils) with a 5000-6000 mile OCI, and consumables (tires and brake pads...new rotors are next on my list). Also, might look into replacing neither just the wheel bearings or the entire hubs. I noticed a VERY light grinding/rubbing noise from my front right wheel when I had it jacked up and spun it. If replacing the rotors and pads doesn't get rid of it, I'll start researching wheel bearings/hubs. Also, the car's been tuned for the last 40k miles or so...no ill effects thus far from a reliability standpoint. Lastly, I'm not sure if it's because I've been paying more attention to it lately, but the rattles from random interior areas seem to have increased. There is definitely a rattle from my HUD/behind the instrument cluster when I'm going a certain speed and the road is just the right level of rough. Can't figure it out, for now I either speed up or slow down to avoid the specific resonating frequency...typically the former.

2012 328i 97,000 miles
Replaced timing chain as a preventative measure, turned out it was literally falling apart (pieces of the guide fell into my oil pan so I got pretty lucky) After replacing the timing chain I went stage 2 bootmod3 which seemed to cause drive-train malfunctions, started by doing spark plugs & that didn't fix it so I went ahead and had the low and high pressure fuel pumps replaced. I've had the car about a year now and while all this work was fairly expensive I'm happy to be driving what once was a $60k for less than 19 grand out the door.

Any sounds/symptoms or was it purely preventative?

You might be able to look it up with the VIN or the dealer can look up the original equipment and msrp. I tried specing out a 330i and got to about $53k. Though most people would get some sort of discount off msrp.

I found a used one on eBay for $100 and another used on this forums classifieds and accidentally bought them both. So i put 1 on my F30(n20) and 1 on my F15(N55). I didn't drive in sport that much before adding it but when I did it was good however with the JB+ it's like adding 2 more Cylinders! I'll say I find the performance increase on the F30 is more noticeable than the F15. You get a small bump in comfort but it shines in sport. |
