Heated Steering Wheel Retrofit

Hi, we have a 2012 Sport line that did not come with a cold package. The seats themselves have heater options in the front, but my wife is craving a heated steering wheel.

Does anybody have a good write up on what is required for this option retrofit? I understand that I need the wheel itself and probably the button and plastic cover on the steering wheel column to install this, but what else? Is there a control module? Would I need to code the car?

I remember a thread on the e90 side that had some info. I did a quick google search and found this thread on the 5 side...If I remember right, you will need the heated wheel, the button for heat, and a new clock spring...

Sort of related question. My car has the full cold pkg with a heated wheel, but I wanted to swap out for an Msport or M wheel. Am I correct in thinking that BMW doesn't make Msport or M wheel with the heating function?

No. Both M and Msport have a heated function available as option.

Search is your friend. I understand it could be done. Very expensive.

Are you asking if M sport wheel has the option for the ACC button, or you are asking if ACC can be added to a car that doesn't have it?

My car has ACC. I'm looking to convert the standard wheel, which also has heat function and paddle shifters, to an M or M sport wheel.

Just didn't know if you could get M or M sport wheel with ACC and heated function.

Thanks

Yes

Heated wheel no issue.

ACC is in the electronics part that you would use.

Yes you can replace the switches on the m-sport steering wheel, they come in pairs with both left and right sides connected.

Found this link. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1526656 Since I have LDW I ordered the parts listed on the link. Can the same guy that did my automatic unlock with engine off code the heated steering wheel or do I need a different guy?

Once you have all the parts installed coding it is a piece of cake, if you had someone code unlock with engine off then they can code the heated steering wheel option.
