Sorry for my ignorance but how do you actually do it. I assume you need somebody with equipment to carry this out. Thanks again.

Yes mate. You need to change some parameters on the car within one of the ECU's. You will need a laptop and some software plus a cable to connect to the car. Search 'Coding' on here for more info.

Had the car in with dealer and they changed the cid unit in the car. Absolutely no difference. Rang BMW customer services and told them so they told me to tell dealer to raise a technical query with them.

Thank you also, very good this option, my navi display was driving me crazy in sunny days, now it is set to full brightness all day.

This is one of the most helpful bits of coding. The brightness or lack of on ID5 and ID6 was annoying. At last this is back to normal. The control display on the new settings looked as if it were broken!

Just found this thread after suffering with the same auto dimming frustrations. Many thanks Rukka!

Yes, it is. In the Head Unit module you'll see a line entry similar to Rukka's (it wasn't identical in Bimmercode for me at least. I think it said "PIP config" not "PIP info"). Scroll down to Dim variant and change the setting to "old" just as Rukka states. Note that a German equivalent line item "Dimmungsvariante" with the same options appears (alte / neue for old / new) too in the Bimmercode list. I didn't touch this, just the English one, and it worked a treat.

Edit: this is in expert mode of course...

UK position on dimmimg

About 6 weeks ago and following my complaint about the auto dimming my UK dealer advised
“... I have had a reply from BMW UK and they are in the process of putting a report together to sent to BMW AG as they have had several complaints regarding this. They did state however at this moment in time the car is working as it was designed.

Unfortunately I don't have any idea of a time scale with regards to a possible fix but it is positive that the issue has been recognised and escalated to AG.

I would assume a fix will be available at a later date in the form of a software update...”

The impact of this dimming doesn’t end there. It also impacts on the surround view cameras (parking assist plus). The screen goes almost completely dark whe manoeuvring from bright light to shadow. It’s really not compatible and BMW should not be selling this option in its current operating state.

Yes mate,

You will need to code it back to the old version with just "Brightness" as an option and not "Brightness at Night"

HU_NBT2 - 3005 Display PIP Info - DIM_VARIANT

Hello, this auto dim is very annoying and I will definitely code this. I am novice but the step by step guides can surely lead me but I have few questions to clarify before that and will appreciate if you can help.

I have a X6 F 16 so I think I wil choose F025 I think in E sys.

When I change the value from new to old does that mean only that option will be shown like in the older software or is it going to be all older software options for most or all of the other options in the HU?
Also I noticed that dimming effect in the instrument cluster too, will this coding also effect it?
And also just for my curiosity do all the ID6 NBT s have this issue?

Thanks in advance.

Also which one is safer Bimmercode software or E-sys?
And also mine is retrofitted NBT EVO so is there a risk of losing all other codings in it?

My 2020 X3 I just picked up gets very dim in overcast days. Showed it to the service manager and top technician and they agreed it was too dim. They even parked another 2020 X3 right next to my car and that one was perfect. What they think is since mine was manufactured in Nov. 19, the new software was already installed which addressed a recent recall regarding the backup camera. They said they believe the new software from the recall causes this and the other 2020 that was perfect did not have that recall software done yet. It is also my belief that there is no coding available for this in my car. Below are a couple pictures which really does not do it justice at all. From the naked eye viewpoint it seems to dim 50%.

Hi Rukka
I know this is a very old thread but I wanted to say thank you! The auto dimming was driving me crazy in my f82 after I got an android mmi box. This fixed it and now the idrivr display is bright as can be with no dimming! Thanks again mate!

Any luck with getting this to work with ID7? It used to work on ID6, but not in ID7. I change the value to "Old" with Bimmercode and the settings stay as "Brightness at Night".
