What are the real world mpg figures for the 40d?
It does seem the best combo the 40d engine in the X3 if you aren't a mad petrol head.
My mixed use of mainly town and country driving, no motorways at all, is around 34mpg, I averaged around 36mpg in the 335d.

Main difference is 335d would do high 40's on a long run, M40d does low 40's

On 16k and already had first service.

I do think these non RFT P Zeros are really bad for rolling resistance though, will likely put Goodyear Assys on when they’re done.

My M5 is on 26, and will do 28 on a run. Less than 2000 miles... high teens in day to day pottering...

It’s one of the smallest elements of running costs though...

Well it is when you don't drive it...I did 2500 miles a month in mine....

My average was 23mpg over 30k it was 16-17 round town 28 on a run so it looks like the new one is the same but then again it's the same engine so no surprise.

Ah ok fair enough. I noticed on Blackcircles that Michelin have a MPS4s in SUV sizes now...

About £200 more for a set than the Goodyears though.

The interior is great. The seats are very comfortable, adjustable and supportive, and combined with the Merino leather they are pretty much perfect. My loan car had the panoramic roof which is a decent size, heated steering wheel and heated rear seats. Apart from that it was probably stock. Weirdly it didn't have a reversing camera, despite that appearing to be standard equipment in the spec I have seen.

The engine is an absolute masterpiece, and that's not just for someone stepping out of a 35d. I have driven the F80 and F82, the engine in those is a bit of a letdown for me. This is in a different league entirely. It is super responsive once the gearbox has woken up and makes a beautiful sound all the way to the red line. I have yet to work out how to overtake cyclists safely without scaring the sh1t out of them! Oh well, a small price to pay... Carwow timed it as 3.8 to 60, which is pretty mad for an SUV.

I watched the Joe Achilles review and think his criticism of the lack of torque is a bit silly. Just don't lock it in a high gear at low speed, and it is fabulous.

Where I think Joe got it right is with the suspension. The car is absolutely fine on good surfaces, but unfortunately in the UK, that's a pretty small proportion of our roads. As soon as the surface becomes less than perfect, that gets transmitted into the cabin, and the great interior begins to creak and rattle. I am very fussy about rattles, so this would bother me. It also starts to lose some traction over fairly minor imperfections, and bigger potholes are not good at all. There is more road noise than my F30, which is a pretty low benchmark.

I agonised over this, as I really wanted to love this car, as the deal is an absolute bargain, but after about 80 miles we reached the conclusion that the suspension spoiled the car for us. If I'm going to drive a car that returns 17mpg and costs a lot to service, I expect more. Oddly, my insurer (Aviva) kept my premium unchanged at just over £300 if I switch.
7er....

You're only one step away from an S Class, and then all that's left after that is death. Don't be encouraging others to give up so easily.......

Hi - was that for the x3 M? Hoping to find a dealer who may place a factory order at the great price to delay proceedings but I guess this is a 4th quarter deal only.

Yes, I always think potentially an Alpina strikes the best balance between performance, handling and comfort for everyday use. Problem is the deals that are readily available on many mainstream BMW models - and indeed M-cars - just don't seem to be there with Alpinas so in practice they end-up being quite a bit more expensive....

Top bloke. I love TRLs no BS approach. I drove 3hrs each way to collect my car because I just hate the stupid haggling BS tactics elsewhere.

Watching this thread with interest.
Had a quote on a X340i in March and it was crazy money, around the 5k plus £650 a month crazy. I wonder what sort of deals will be on the table end of quarter 4. Interesting times.

If i did your driving i would have a 530d no doubt. Or an E400d. Great for the motorway. Dont really need anything that big so going bigger for thelast 10th of refinement wouldnt be necessary.

As i dont, i dont - its great we can all have what suits us!

If you're seriously wanting one I'd get in there now, not sure they'll get much cheaper than this.

I read yesterday that exports out of Germany to the UK was down 7bn since Brexit. Perhaps this is why these good offers are available. Trying to boost sales in the Uk.
