Front Magnetic License Plate

Hello

Does anyone know of any magnetic Front License plate holders I can use. I would prefer not to take of my bumper to glue a magnet in the back. Is there a way I can get a magnet to just attach to the front of the bumper using the pull of the metal bumper behind the cover. I hope this is not confusing. I don't plan on driving around with the plate on the front just when i park in the city because the foot officer are like hawks here in Chicago.

Thanks

I would think there's a decent risk that it gets knocked off. Or someone could easily just take it in a parking lot. Sure--someone could unscrew your plate if they really wanted it, but why make it that easy?

I know that's a risk i'm willing to take versus me parking for 10 mins and coming back to find a $60 ticket by a cop who has nothing better to do.

I literally paid the parking meter went inside to pickup my take out order and when i came back there was a ticket on the windshield (5 mins max).

I believe there are plate holders for the front tow hook opening.

I have it. It's nice and easy to put on and remove but I feel a bit ricey with it on though. ::

I don?t like having the tow hook portion open. I?m only going stick the plate on when I park on the street on rare occasion. Like if I am running into a store or grabbing dinner somewhere. Other then that the car is in my garage

It's super easy to pull the bumper forward enough to glue a magnet back there without having to remove the whole bumper. Look up the directions for installing the black front grills and see if that will give you enough room to access the area you need to access.

Hopefully those magnets are super strong!

neodymium magnets are pretty strong. for what he's talking about doing, they'll hold just fine. but it means someone can steal his front plate without needing any tools. if i were him, i'd make sure whatever was on the back side of the plate was covered in something soft so it doesn't scratch the paint on the bumper over time.

That's one thing I was worried about as well. All that friction. But if he said all he needs it for is when he's going to the store and such I guess he'd be taking it on and off.

Running without a front plate in Chicago? You're brave. The meter maids in Chicago are relentless.

If you don't mind having your tow hook cover open with a small piece of hardware showing, you could get a quick release two hook license plate mount like this:

The nub showing is pretty small.

I?d be worried about it suddenly flying off at speed. There is quite a bit of force acting on the front of the car. Double down on the magnets!

I put three round neodynium magnets behind the bumper on my 440i to hold the plate. I've driven it at freeway speeds with no problem whatsoever.

https://www.amazon.com/Pieces-CMS-Ma.../dp/B000UCVARK

On the outside, attached to the back of the plate, I use a magnetic pad sold for dealers to slap a temporary plate on new cars. It's flexible rubber.

The tow hook plate mounts interfere with PDC.

I don't plan on driving with it at all.

What did you use to glue them on to the bumper?

It gets pretty cold in the winter here don't want them falling of and attaching to sensor or getting stuck in some moving engine part.

Agreed! Chicago Meter maids are horrible. In the burbs cops never care. I thought about the QD plate but the toe hook cover is much larger then then the one on the porsche.

WaterWeld putty from JB Weld. The magnets are attached to the inside of the bumper cover and aren't going anywhere with that stuff on them.

my concern with not having the plate on all the time is the magnet will lose power. at least put it back on when you park at night to keep the energy up.

Just ordered the lightened QR for my '17 F31 M Sport. Best option I've seen for easy on/easy off without damage to the bumper. I may have the nub that remains powder coated and color matched to my car.

The tow hook option always looks more noticeable to me than a property mounted front plate.

Damn that looks super slick! I don't want to take off my bumper though. Decided I can't take the tow hook way. Just looks way too ricey to me. I'll have to figure something out.
