Alright so the time has come. Oil pan drain striped

So today was great, oil levels sensor has been down for atleast a month, car hasn't moved, did oil change today and as always I inspect everything with cover off and clean everything. Turbo oil drain line is leaking. Cool no worries, appears there's some oil sweating from the oil pan (80500 miles) cool no worries wasn't bad, did a small snug up on all bolts to hold it over.

Oil level sensor had rodent damage, never had a rat around my house so that was odd, missing about 3" of wire. Cut, extended and soldered. Cool that works again. Oil drain plug was leaking, It never felt right threading it in before, so I assumed it was gonna happen. Drain oil, go to tighten plug up, hand tight all good, go to put any pressure on it, pop. That was it, remove plug, threads come with it, blew out the middle section of threads.

That being said. Today has sucked but that's life. I can timesert it. They seem to be reliable enough, I want to look into a rivnut as a solution, I feel that can be even stronger, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't want to buy a pan as I know I can repair it, pan is weeping a few drops of oil, it's going to need a gasket within the next oil change. I figure now is the time to drop it all down.

Really dreading this job, maybe it won't be so bad once I dig in. The list is mmr baffle, pan gasket obviously, engine mounts (anyone use the vtt plates that can chime in?), and possible rod bearings and arp bolts. I got a minute to think about it.

Anyone who has done this job please chime in with your experience lol.
Anyone that changed rod bearings I would like to talk.

Acl bearings and arp rod bolts are likely going to happen while I'm in there to.
Mmr baffle may take too long to get here so I may skip that unfortunately

Isn't it best to line home the block if you use arp rod bolts? I'd personally just stick to stock tty bolts for piece of mind.

I never heard about having to do that for rod bolts, main bolts maybe, most people don't use oem bolts when changing them out as arp is stronger, and a much easier torque procedure.
Almost no reason to use oem bolts

I just did some more digging and saw what you mentioned, distortion of rod end. Most are saying improper torque values are causing issues, but the standard torque (36#) is fine, however that being said I'm not sure now what to do.
Many people running arp no issues when done correctly. Hmmm

I believe the s65 guys required 50#
I'm wondering
I'm going to get in touch with some n54/s55 engine builders soon and see if anyone is willing to talk

I have no reason to believe the bearings are going to be an issue in this car, but I would like the piece of mind if I'm going through all this trouble
I'll see what I can gather before making a positive commitment to messing with the bearings

I used arp on my old m52 engine builds and always went well. One ran for 5 years trouble free before selling the car

Yeah my plan is to pull the subframe, replace the gasket, I think I may have a slight leak from the dump bolt and then while at it redo the bearings, mmr baffle and a front sway bar. So very interested in this

I'm not exactly sure honestly, standard 335 and m sport have different part numbers and was sort of confusing because places like fcp only had the standard, when I type in part numbers it acted like it was a special part or something.. all of the standard said "not for m sport"
So I went with an m motor mount, I know they fit, anyone who makes after market mounts fits all n55/s55 f chassis

My wife has been working from home this week. And unfortunately my oil cooler, intake, downpipe, race intercooler and some other bits and bobs all arrived in one day..... She was very suspicious of all the parcels and wondering how regular the deliveries are!!!

So my tow hook doesn't thread into the block. Someone said an e90 one does.
I don't really know, looks nicely threaded, sort of want a nice bolt instead and hook a chain to it, dunno, anyone confirm??

Either way good ole harbor freight got an engine brace, looks solid enough. I'm not too scared

Did you end up picking new rod bearings?

I’m ordering my parts now (mmr baffle, genuine Rod bolts, oil pan gasket and bolts and hard race sway bar)

I’m thinking of getting the king rod bearings in std size

Also interested to know if you are going to completely remove the subframe or just drop it slightly?
