Thanks again, I've been wanting to get a DP but I feel like passing inspection will be a pain in the ass.

In short, the key to increasing power is reducing back pressure, and people go catless to do just that.
Well the difference is catless downpipes have no catalytic converter to filter out harmful waste gases, and catted downpipes have a high flow catalytic converter. Contrary to the above post, you WILL NOT pass emissions with a high flow catted downpipe. The reason people have high-flow catted downpipes is because they don't like the added loudness that comes with catless downpipes and/or they don't like the smell. Those are the only benefits to a high-flow catted downpipe over a catless one: reduced noise and reduced smell. You will get slightly higher power gains from catless due to the greater reduction in restriction, but nothing huge over high-flow catted.

I too live in a state with emissions inspections, but I went catless anyway. I'm kind of in the "cross that bridge when I come to it" mentality. I may have to reinstall the stock downpipe, or I may have to pay for someone to pass it if that's a thing still. Not sure how I'm gonna work that out but I don't have to worry about it for another 2 years

With the high flow cats, how are they in comparison to catless? In terms of power gain, if any?
I don't think there's a huge difference, maybe around 10-15hp. The biggest difference is the sound. With catless you'll get more crackles

You might as well go catless IMO. More power, better sound. High flow catted will still probably cause you to fail tbh.

Sole reason I haven't gone catless or hi flow is the inspection aspect as well. Between work and school both full time, don't have the kind of time to be switching back to stock for inspection and back over, that sounds like an annoying hassle. Otherwise I'm happy with the stage 1 gains, would be really nice to be stage 2 though.

You still have plenty of time to rock a catless. Don't have to smog for six years on your vehicle date!

Hahaha Peer pressure at its best. You won't regret going catless when/if ever you do, trust me

Hi guys/gals.

I just flashed my 2014 328i F31 with Stage 1 OTS 93 Octane.

Painless process and a definite improvement over stock and JB Stage 1.

Reponding to OP, there is a definite difference in burble duration on the OTS Stage 1 map. Its no more aggressive, but it's definitely noticeably longer than stock. So much so that I flashed it with OEM burbles in the config just to test and sure enough, it was back to the stock burbles.

Shopping around for downpipe etc and have the $50 all you can eat OTS bundle in preparation for Stage 2.

Yeah, ours is every year as well but you get six years from the vehicle production year until you need to smog every year. And the real issue here is who is making you pay that much for a downpipe???? That's ridiculous.

I'm having problems with activating my car. When I go into the "Activate Vehicle" menu on bootmod3.net it says "OBD agent not found", even though my laptop is connected to the car and the OBD agent is running. However, when I'm logging in, there is text that says OBD agent found - VIN unavailable.

Could this be a problem with my Ethernet to USB adapter? I have a Mac and I'm using the Amazon Basics adapter. I might go and buy the official Apple one tonight, but I don't know if that's the only issue.

I would email them. I accidentally typed in the wrong VIN initially and they helped me within a few hours. You do have to be connected to the internet though on your laptop. Mine was spotty so the website would kind of go in and out.

Hey guys, my car is stage 1 now Everything about the tune is so smooth and honestly feels like an in-line 6. And the burbles are retarded

As for the problem I had earlier, I got one of the people to control my computer remotely. Turns out my computer didn't allow Ethernet connections, but they got it all fixed.

Thanks everyone for the help

Can someone post vid of their burbles with Stage 1. My car doesn't have any burbles on deceleration on Stage 1. Only when i upshift while WOT but this was happening even when i was on Dinan Sportronics so it has nothing to do with BM3.

Yeah I can try recording some videos in the near future. I always drive with DSC off which gives me a lot of burbles. I also have a muffler delete if that makes a difference.

You'll get a little bit more power with catless, maybe 10 extra WHP? Not totally sure, just guessing, but catless, just logically, definitely awards a bit more power.
