I have the pnuematic waste gate N55 F30. Looking at a catted downpipe and would soon be adding MHD tune. What are my options if I don't want to spend 1800 on a fabspeed DP? Is the VRSF catted downpipe worth the money?

It won’t come with a CEL guarantee, but it will reduce smell you’ll need a tune to remove the CEL

Active Autowerke, Fabspeed,CG precision, and Akrapovic are the only three brands I know of that offer downpipes with no CEL guarantee.

Since you are adding a flash tune, any good catted downpipe will do the work since the tune handles the CEL.

If you want a US-built downpipe with unmatched finish quality, get the Evolution Racewerks downpipe

If you are looking for the best value catted downpipe, check out CTS Turbo

Do you think a vrsf/cts catted dp with stock exhaust would give enough of a sound difference to be worth it? Ik "worth it" means something different for everyone but just trying to get a general idea. I don't need it to scream I'd just like to hear the exhaust and the pops from inside more.

Appreciate any help.

I have high flow cat on stock exhaust.

I think its a great mix of quiet when you need it and loud when you want it.

I would recommend.

OEM to aftermarket catted DP is an almost imperceptible change in volume and tone with a stock exhaust. I posted several videos with dB readings before/after DP install with stock exhaust (and some more after res delete with fabspeed catted DP). So if you are looking for a sound increase, catted DP alone isnt going to do it with stock exhaust. You need catless DP or catted DP + res delete.

Ok cool thank you. At that point could I just do a res delete?

As i always say, keep in mind the car sounds much louder and better from behind than from inside the cabin. This is a very mild exhaust setup.

Appreciate the vids. Sounds great. How is it on the inside? Really eager to pull the trigger but just want to hear some feedback on if there is a noticeable difference during everyday driving

Even with the res delete, the sound inside the cabin is only moderately increased. The res delete + catted DP essentially makes it from "i cant hear the exhaust at all" to "i hear the exhaust but its still pretty quiet". The only time its really a lot more noticeable in terms of volume/tone/turbo noise is when you are driving with the windows down next to a wall or in a parking structure or something. Just driving around normal with the windows up you still dont really hear the exhaust at all. My burbles are very minimal (OEM setting), but those definitely get louder with the res delete.

IMO there really is no such thing as best based on price. I chose VRSF due to low cost. Downpipes are not easy to install so a lot of people complain they don't fit. Mine did. First time it was a real bitch. I also needed to buy O2 extenders. Works great. I've had mine off several times and now I can swap it out in probably under an hour. I'm also running bm3 so I turned off the cel. Get what you can afford but don't think that since you have a BMW you need the most expensive parts.

Your DP fit but you needed to buy O2 extenders? Sounds like it didnt fit if you are talking about needing to extend the O2 wire harness due to bung placement, lol. People usually only complain they don't fit when they don't (not because of incompetent install) - incorrect O2 bung placement is considered not fitting.

You definitely don't need the most expensive parts, unless you want no CEL/emissions considerations, then you kindof do.

Fabspeed is good while it works but eventually will get cel. I have mine for about 3 years now and after 1.5 year or so got cel. for replacement you have to jump thru a lot of hoops to even get it approved. if I'd have to do it again would go catless.

@BulsaraF36 were you running a burble heavy tune? I've had a Fabspeed catted DP In the past and loved it, never got a CEL but I believe the HJS cats in there started burning out over the sameish three years. Tried reaching out to them and experienced the same hoops and ladders to try and replace the cat.

Ended up just buying an ER catted DP and on a less burble heavy tune as that eats through the cat over time. Didn't want to go catless for the smell but for the price of the Fabspeed, I wish they were a bit more receptive for previous customers getting their DPs serviced. :

I have had my fabspeed on for about 1.5 years, no issues, but i run only OEM burble settings. I find burbles unnecessary anyways. I better get at least 5 years.
