What do you dislike about the 340i?
I have purchased a new 340i and am currently waiting for delivery. To temper my excitement, I would like to know what I can expect after the new car bliss wears off.... What do you hate/dislike about this model specifically? What would you change? (Not talking about dealer options). I want to know what bothers you about the car?
Fun fact and you can say what you want...., but i have never even driven this car that I ordered. I am in kind of a unique situation, I am in Italy purchasing a US Spec version of the car and this car is not being sold in Italy there is no dealer car to see so unfortunatly I pretty much ordered blind. Just did my research and i knew what i wanted. This is my second BMW had a 2000 323i. -Rob Last edited by Rob340i; 12-08-2017 at 02:10 PM.. |

Radio and volume controls on the right side of steering wheel still annoys me after 2 years of ownership.

I hate the fact that instrument cluster isn’t back lit during the day, on some days it’s quite difficult to make out the instruments.
Another is that there is only a single audio volume level so switching between can have you grabbing for the volume knob. Minor niggle as above I’d much rather have the steering wheel controls swapped around so the media was on the left and would have also like a way to move to track before or after on the steering wheel. |

Okay, there was one thing that "irked" me and that was the screen size. To many, it's probably just fine but to me, it was too short (8.8") so I tossed a 10.2" OEM from an F15/16 in and am now happy. The Android screen was just too distracting and buggy...

However, after driving an Audi S5 for a week in Europe and using their controls the iDrive and steering wheel controls are FAR more intuitive on the BMW. |

It's an interesting plan he has; he seems to be "over excited" (or close to it) for his new ride like some of us get and wants to "let himself down a bit" or in other words "take his excitement down a few notches" if I'm understanding this complex theory correctly I should have done the same with my Cadillac's as they were nothing but a disappointment and a let down once I took delivery. (except for the 09 CTS) To the OP, this car will not disappoint you!

I have had my 340i for 18 months, and really cannot find much to dislike. I love the B58 engine/tranny mix and really don't miss shifting gears. The positioning of the radio controls on the steering wheel is fine with me, although others seem to find this a problem. This is one of the best BMWs I have had over the years, and I have had quite a few.

The only thing I wish for on a daily basis is that the media track back/forward buttons were on the steering wheel. They were on the E92 I came from. Now I have to reach across to the other side of the dash to get to them. When you listen to music that has long intros it's nice to skip that stuff. It's especially awkward if you have passengers, to have to reach across the dash.

Wind noise.
Aside from the steering it's in every way better than the 2008 335i sport packages I drove before this dynamically

I dislike the fact that 340i looks so ordinary just like another 3-series, and many Civic/Corolla/Mustang/etc. drivers just blew by intentionally.
Fortunately, there is an easy fix for that -- just open her up! Tim |

I have a 335i but my top dislikes are numb steering and sometimes annoying low-speed behavior from the drivetrain. Also the high hood hurts sightlines to the front corners, but that's the EU's fault not BMW's. Oh and VSS I could live without. And there's no sync button for the hvac temp settings. And I 2nd the earlier vote about volume controls on the right side of the steering wheel instead of the left.

The creaking that you'll likely encounter from the trim above the centre stack/below the iDrive screen - such an annoyance.

I hate the cheap a$$ center console that you rip open like an inexpensive microwave oven. I hate the noise it makes, I hate opening it and I hate closing it. A release button would have cost them like $7.00.
