$700 for front brakes???

My 2013 328 is almost due for front brakes. The dealership quoted over $700 just for the two. That sounds like a rip off. I used to do the brakes on my old 99 M3. Is the job any more difficult than that on the newer models? Any favorite links to brake jobs? Thanks.

These brakes aren't much different from what you found on your E36 = easy. The dealer here wanted $800 to do rear rotors, pads & wear sensor - I had to decline their offer!

Excellent! I’ll definitely do it myself. Not sure how a dealership justifies $700 for about 1 hour of work. Even if the rotors need to be replaced, that shouldn’t cost more than $200-300 tops.

Well it depends on what brakes you are running. The Mperformance rotors from.BMW go for 4-500 just in the rear. All the pads amongst the Brembos are the same.

Easy job

You can get zimmerman rotors with ate/pagid/textar/jurid pads for oem equivalent. Other pads are akebono for less dust, or you can get hawk hps pads.

And if you purchase the rotors and pads from FCPEuro they are guaranteed for life, so if you still have your car the next time brake changes come up the rotors and pads will be a free warranty replacement.

loool this is a $60 job if you just need pads, maybe $250 for everything if done by yourself, and very easy

Similar story in the UK with the dealer quoting £410 for just replacement pads and sensor. Local independent who is 1 minute down the road quoted £225. That's £160 for the BMW pads from the main dealer plus 1 hours labour at £65. They have full access to update the iDrive to reset the warnings etc.

Happy to pay main dealer prices for peace of mind but seems that they want to charge me £250 labour for what is probably 45 mins. work at best.

Bit of a rip off.

The most common service items you can reset yourself, including brakes and oil changes.
