An F31 MSport Individual - One Unicorn From a Family of Unicorns
As many of you know, the F31 is usually a rare sighting here in the U.S. Production has finally ended and it’s extremely unlikely that BMW will certify another 3-series wagon for the US. I am by no means a touring fanatic but I really liked the look of the F31 and back in late 2015 I set out to get something a little different and unique. Took me nearly 9 months from the beginning of my negotiations with BMW Individual to delivery of the car in 2016.

Thank you. Sorry i might not have been clear but I’m the original owner as this was ordered from BMW Individual that way. I think the way i wrote the thread originally might have come off like I just got the car.

That interior is the sh!t! That looks to be a domestic '16 F31, I wasn't aware that Individual was an option (for an F31) in the states. Is it interior only, or did you still get Estoril even though it was a standard offering?

Ahh thanks for clarifying! Must have been a great experience being able to order your wagon.
I do actually know of a local F31 that is an individual car in LSB. I see him driving around my neighborhood once in awhile. Definitely a dad since I've seen his little kids in the back.

Estoril was a standard order item but triggered the MSport option. What’s more peculiar about this car is that it literally has every option and more. It has the equivalent track option which was not available for the diesel in 2016, They allowed me to special order variable sport steering option (VSS). The car also has the adaptive dampers which was a standard order. Oddly enough they would not approve the MPerformance brakes but that was actually a blessing in disguise. I much prefer the red calipers when i ordered the brake kit instead of having blue on blue. It breaks it up. Look closely and you’ll see that is also has the rear folding headrests and headlamp washers which were also not available in 2016. I also added the MPerformance exhaust which I have not seen on any other 3 series diesel.

Here's an interesting perspective of Individual orders for the F80 and other production data. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1551939 Total Individual Special Paint (490) was 3,421. Total customized interiors (Z1XX) was only 955. It's much more rare to have a custom interior than it is to have a different color. Regardless it's all cool stuff and extra profit for BMW anyway.

Last year when inquiring about my 2019 330i order, the sales manager first sent a request to BMW NA for the Individual black merino leather dashboard and black merino leather seat trim. Unfortunately, it was denied |

I'm surprised they pushed the headlight washers through, didn't see that earlier. Curious what time of year your production was? A few months ago I was doing some d wagon research and found a couple cars with vss (though not otherwise impressively built). Came to a conclusion that 1340 d wagons were built MY16 for US and Canada. That's fewer than 2 cars per state/province per month.

The production of my car was in June 2016. My first contact with the dealer started in late November 2015. Those numbers don't surprise me. The F31 is actually very rare.

Jim, your custom order F31 is extremely special with that full individual interior. Amazing combination and without a doubt a 1 of 1 in all of North America, possibly the world!
Thank you for helping me with my special order as well!

Thank you. Oddly enough I did ask for piano black but they said no. No clue why. Ash grain wasn't my first choice but the best of what's left. It usually looks black unless the sun is shining on it. Anyway, it's easy enough to change in case I want to put more money into this car.

Thanks for noticing. Rims are like shoes, so it's really a matter of personal preference in the end. I contemplated many different rims and even aftermarket though that was limited to BBS only.
In the end I wanted the theme of this car to be mainly OE/OEM focused. So it made sense to pic a rim that matched the fact that this is an Individual car. There is another individual rim that was available but it was the older style. It's not an in your face design but it complements the touring for what it is. Some might even say it reminds them of a 5 series style.

That looks amazing. I agree that the Red Calipers look a lot better.
Also, Is this where the line starts for when you decide to sell it? Only partially kidding...

I'm not going to say I'll never sell simply because you never know. But given how common BMW's have become, it's not all that often that anyone can say they literally have a one-off. Oh you might want to take this stat into account. I'm an original owner of my 2011 X535d and it's still my daily with 80K miles in addition to my 99 E36 M3 - also an original owner. Besides who would want her with 16K miles on the clock.

To the OP: Photos no longer link. If you are still around, any chance you could re-post a few pics?
BTW, I remember your Estoril Blue '99 M3 from the old days/previous forums. You certainly have a talent when it comes to distinctive BMWs. |
