Question Going catless?

This my first time changing a downpipe, I have a dinan stage 1 tune. What do I need to change to install a catless downpipe with no issues? Im afraid that the turbo will over boost and kill the engine. Do I have to tune the engine for the new downpipe?

Hi,

With a catless downpipe you will definitely want to get a tune. The stage 2 jb4 tune goes very well with a dp, the dinan tune won't really get you anywhere.

You will get a Check Engine Light if you go catless. That will be your biggest concern.

The JB4 ( and other devices ) can take care of the eventual CEL.

No, you don't need to tune it for the catless downpipe.
But, with proper tune, it would be more beneficial.
The other issue is the CEL. With Dinan tune, it doesn't supress the CEL. Your option now is either get the Macht Schnell EVC or BMS CAN Flap Module.

You can install catless downpipes with your current mods without any issues.
You will get an engine check light, but that can be suppressed by the JB4 or the BMS can flap module ( or you can just ignore it)
No need to worry about your turbos, catless downpipe will help your turbos by removing the pressure caused by your cats.
I do strongly recommend that you get a JB4 as well to take full advantage of the performance gains of going catless.

As previously mentioned, you definitely don't need a tune but you will certainly benefit from one when going with catless downpipes!

+1

Other then the sound benefit, there is little HP/TQ gain from downpipes without a proper tune. You will get better turbo spool, but again without a tune to take advantage of the new free flowing exhaust you are leaving a lot of power and gains on the table.

I'd skip the dinan if you want to take advantage of all the power benefits. Plus with Dinan you will have the CEL as they will not defeat emissions lights because it's illegal. Otherwise you can install a catless downpipe on any car, understanding that you won't reap the full power benefits and you will have a check engine light.
