Thats not exactly true, I have a F32 428i with K&N drop in and catless downpipe, without tune, theres no pop or bang at all, just louder diesel like ticking noise from the engine. I think burble tune is the only way.

Get a 435 then. My 335 has really nice burble without a tune. Res delete and Dinan axle back

Edit: don't want to come off as a dick. The point I was trying to get across was the bmw didn't tune in much burble into the 28is. I would suggest a catless dp with bm3. A burble tune with a cat will destroy it.

Or an M3 CS with an MPE

Seriously though, tune will do it. The question is how loud and how often does the OP want to hear all that racket.

MPPSK on my 340 let's off gun shots to rival after market exhaust when I was leaving bimmerfest. Was awesome when I was driving through the tunnel.

Same here, muffler delete with Vivint resonator to help with the in cabin resonance. Get crackles and pops..More so in low speed in Eco Pro mode, but that is boring. So it stays in Sport mode and get the crackles and pops in overrun

our 440i with the MPPSK gives my Jaguar SVR a run for it's money with burbles, pops and bangs. The 440 was fairly docile without the MPPSK and still is in Comfort mode, but drop it into sport and manually shift and watch the smiles come to your face! Not cheap, but so nice to have the option to turn it off when you need to. The added HP from the tune is pretty awesome as well .

I recently installed a Borla Atak catback on my 2016 F32. Sounds tamer than I thought it would. It does burble on downshifts on decelerating on sports mode. Thinking I need a downpipe, but it's a pain living in Cali. Would a tune help the exhaust get louder with more pops? Thinking of BMS stage 1, but I'm hearing even this is not being sold here.

You are the first person I've seen review the ATAK as "tame". Are you sure you didn't get the S Type? Exhausts do take some time to break in. I would recommend adding a downpipe since you don't have to worry about passing smog until the vehicle is 8 years old. Plus it comes with performance gains. It makes the car much more aggressive sounding. Bootmod3 will add the burbles

Maybe tame was an overstatement. Guess my expectations of it were different based on what I was reading here. Day to day driving inside the cabin on comfort mode, you can barely hear it unless you roll the windows down. I'm definitely considering a downpipe at this point. Does a catted dp help with smog tests or is this something you can't avoid?
