Ok BMW. Go nuts. M is the roman numeral for 1000. Make a 1,000hp M1 supercar with all the trimmings. Haha

Why all the replies saying BMW won't do it? I highly disagree. BMW sees the success of the MB Amg gt and know they can do it better In all aspects. So why not do it? There would be a big market I guarantee it. Not only would a large % of M/// owners purchase one but if they could steal a small fraction of the amg gt sales (and they will if they go through with it) they would be comfortably in the green.

Not to mention that but it would be nothing short of amazing. Having the freedom to start from scratch instead of being handcuffed by a cars body that they didn't design.. Now of course it's not a huge handcuff with BMW's being what they are but still, think of the possibility. All I can say is I HOPE they follow through with it.

Let's just work on getting rid of the M Package, and get back to the days where a 80-100k M car came with quality embroidered floor mats!!

Whoa there buddy. If ICE is down to its last straw then nothing wrong with taking a good long sip ..... it's gonna be at least a decade long drink.
If they make a plug-in CSL I'm all over it.
I laughed and then puked.
eMotors have a absolutely huge performance advantage.

I agree that, if they are building a case for a PHEV rather than an EV, a P48 actually makes good sense. It would fit the i8 platform without the need to modify any hard points. Even if they had to detune it from race spec, it could still give them, say, 500hp from the combustion part of the drivetrain alone. And they could, for example, double that by complementing it with two or even three electric motors.

An EV division? If the ICE is as dead as you say, then so are EV divisions. Why have a division for something that should soon be the entirety of your business? Every BMW will soon be electrified and M Division products certainly won't be left out. In fact, I would argue this supercar exercise makes sense only if it is at the very least a plug-in hybrid.

A plug in CSL...?
Better remove the L then, the hybrid ads alot of weight!
A pointless concept to begin with

Depends upon which composites it's made of.
And I mean chassis up.
My i3 is a good case for composites.
and very very fast.

If they made it around 3,000lbs with today’s safety specs, it would have to be made out of CF entirely. The price would skyrocket to hundreds of thousands of dollars, and people like you and me would never buy it.

You know what’s low, sexy, light weight, fast and with a TT V8? A McLaren. And it drives incredibly well, absolutely stupendous. Why don’t you buy one of those? Template exists, your dream has been realized.

I seriously doubt they’ll do it. It would be 2024 or 2025 before it could hit the streets, they’ve already missed the opportunity.

Yep, I also think more that way...and Audi is going already prety serious...there won't be a new TT & R8 after this model lifecycle the CEO said in a press conference.

He also said that they need to cut down more models and save money to ramp up electricity R&D, and for this to be a success, every 2nd Audi needs to be a SUV...no good future forecast :

Well we did say 50 year all out supercar or whatever it's nomenclature is..
" Unique M Stand-alone Model " of Mystery ahead yet to unfold.

Albeit, In my world I
Think possible not impossible.

In this scenario I was also thinking
That price shouldn't even be of concern.

Ps - I was most certainly hoping for sub 3k lbs

I would love BMW would do this, but it is not that easy for them like for Mercedes.

Mercedes has much much more side businesses with very good margins on the sales like Trucks, Corporate Cars (Vans, small trucks, Busess)....and a lot of technologies for super/hypercars coming from F1 R&D...so the have more room to play with not so „usual" cars without taking high risks like BMW...that is why there is still nothing like the M1 was...but let's hope

Excerpt taken from :

https://www.bmw-motorsport.com/en/to...Formula-E.html

" The Drivetrain:

The heart of the BMW iFE.18.

BMW's expertise in the BMW iFE.18 is primarily in the heart of the vehicle, the drivetrain. Within the Racing eDrive engineers transferred BMW i's knowledge and experience into a high-performance motorsport drive system. It's trademarks are a high energy density, maximum efficiency and the use of latest technologies and materials. Main components of the drivetrain are the electric motor, the cooling system and the inverter. The drive systems for future generations of BMW i models and the drivetrain of the BMW iFE.18 are based on the same functional software modules. This again underlines the intense knowledge transfer between production development and motor racing.

Also building steam: ( not literally )

https://www.fiaformulae.com

Not to mention the various teams and manufacturers will to win and all out competitive natures only enhance the furthering and strengthening of their E engines for racing applications ( thus far ) and thus in theory
- should ultimately trickle down in good ways
to our hands and feet.

As Hope is never a strategy, I can only watch and wait.

Only if it's a true performance car - no electric folding mirrors, no PDC, no HUD, no big NAV screen, NO ACTIVE SOUND, no 6 way power seats, NO REAR WINDOW SHADES.

Just simple, light, fast and purpose built.

Prefer analog tach and speedo over digital cluster.

6MT and/or true dual clutch - no torque converter automatic.

If I'm greedy - Old school NA motor.

If it's a pretender it'll be a high priced flop.
