Tyre/wheel insurance
Hi Guys!
Just collected used 440i from dealership. Was offered wheel/tyre insurance for £599 /3 years. Shopping around, can get it down to £390/3 years with no excess. Does anyone have this and is it worth it? Cheers 4 now AL |

Bought my car new and declined that insurance. I have had one puncture in three and a half years that was repairable and cost £15. Had one wheel refurbished due to kerbing through BMW that cost £150 (not sure if this would have been covered). For me it would not have been worth the cost of insurance.

I bought tyre insurance on both my BMW's. The E92 which I had for 5 years suffered at least 5 punctures in 3 years and I had to replace all 4 wheels [casting porous] running on Bridgestones and M sport suspension. My current F32 which I've had for 2 years hasn't had any punctures has adaptive suspension and Continentals.
For peace of mind its worth having as the premium is less than the cost of a tyre. |

I have the insurance. I paid £399 for 3 years from Sandal BMW Wakefield. I have had 2 wheel refurbs and 2 tyres in 2 years so it has been the best insurance i ever bought!!

I was offered it for £399 for 3 years 0 excess.... and declined it.
i've since had to replace both my front tyres due to bulges in the side wall... so in hindsight maybe i should have got it! |

Double check the small print. I had a similar from Stratsones but it did not cover diamond cut wheels. Canceled it the next day.

If you add up all the potential insurances you can get for your car (car insurance, GAP insurance, extended warranty, wheel insurance etc), it adds up to quite a lot of money on a yearly basis for something that you may never use.
You're looking at £1500-2000 for every year of ownership. Does it really make sense? |

I've never bothered myself - at the end of the day the replacement cost of a tyre is not that much so if you are unlucky enough to have a puncture, and then unlucky enough that it can't be repaired for £20 it still isn't going to hurt that much unlike the costs insurance, GAP and warranty are shielding you from... I can't remember the last time I had a puncture that wasn't repairable but then again I could get 4 next week... If I wrote my car off and didn't have GAP I'd deeply regret that decision, on the other hand if I need a new tyre I wouldn't be thinking I should have paid £399 to cover it - I wouldn't give it a second thought, indeed if I did have the insurance I'd be hoping for another puncture or 2 to actually make it worth it... If that makes any sense that is my logic for not bothering...

It's worth it as my lesser have kerbed the front two being cocky with a narrow speed restriction. She wants to keep fun flats so yes it is worth it. Especially as the local Mercedes advises on replacement not repair. Even if you're super careful the roads are a shambles and a pot hole may get you.

Purchased tyre insurance when I bought my car, then went on holiday. Came back and no paperwork, contacted bmw asking where is my paperwork for insurance and they said they have issues with new provider. Then 3 months after and still no paperwork chasing them up every month I got a puncture. They did a goodwill and I got my money back on the tyre replacement. 7 months on and chasing them up every month with a telephone and email trail and they turn around and told me sorry new provider needs an invoice and we didn't know to issue you one. So now I have no tyre insurance and impossible to get it because it went on so long.
My advice is for 0% interest and tyres over 200 each it's well worth it. The wheel insurance is just if you think you will curb and its so hard to curb your wheel if you check your mirrors I think it's pointless but tyre insurance is a must. Side wall bubbles and potholes |

Not inevitable on an X3, the wider higher profile tyres mean it’s impossible to kerb the wheels as far as I can tell! It’s a massive bonus for me!

Total loss gap - £401 for 3 years wheel and tyre insurance with 19" diamond cut
4 claims for tyres per year AND 4 claims for wheels per year. £150 per wheel, £350 per tyre if they can't be fixed. No limit to total £££ claimed during the insured period. https://totallossgap.co.uk/quote/5/1 For me with 704s it was a no brainer, all it takes is one deep pot hole which takes out a tyre and wheel and I've won. They also do some other useful things like excess insurance. Allows you to mess with the insurance quotes, save £150 by choosing a higher excess then paying this lot £35 to cover you for it.....

Diamond cut refurb is around £540 for a full set or £150 per wheel for 19" rims.
The refurb process is very effective and they look new after. So unless you claim a number of times no real saving. Further I think if your considering wheel insurance then your most likely a very careful driver and unlikely to need it. |
