Dynojets can only report horsepower at the wheels.

Why the difference between yours and Red's? 93? Looks like BM3 is about as much power as Active8 piggy.

It's hard to say, but I have a lot of stuff that minimizes my drivetrain losses.

RWD
Manual transmission
330mm rear brakes vs the 345 MSport/MPerformance brakes
Forged 18" wheels (19lbs each)
Only 10k miles on the engine

At the end of the day, there are also a lot of factors that can play into dyno readings. Temperature, DA, Humidity, fuel quality, etc. can cause your hp readings to vary from day to day. I'd expect a big difference because I'm in Ohio and he's down in Florida. Even just on my dyno runs, I measured 385, 396, then 398. That's a 14hp spread across (3) runs within 15 minutes of each other. So you can't really compare two different dyno readings. That's why I did stock, and then tuned to compare the gains. That's more important than the actual numbers.

So your car stock with 15% loss has around 390 at the crank!!

You think BMW are underrating their engines or Dynojets are overrating or both ?

I have seen a lot of data supporting BMW underrating their HP. My old F80 M3 was almost putting down to the wheels what it was rated at crank stock.

Yes BMW underrating their engine power has been floating around for quite some time but by 70 HP is quite too much.

If you use Mustang dynos, you will see BMW is not under-rating.

One thing to look at is if a dynojet is shown in STD or SAE. You can only really compare SAE to SAE for a relatively close comparison. Its a correction factor that portrays similar numbers across different dynojets (corrects for weather, elevation, etc. to give a consistent number across different regions). STD numbers are almost always significantly higher. If you look around the site you'll notice most stock b58 cars do 300-310whp SAE and 330-340whp STD. On my previous car, the dyno operator gave me both and STD was around 25 hp and tq higher across the board.

1. I think BMW is underrating their engines, along with most all German manufacturers (had the same experience with volkswagen and audi)
2. I don't think I have 15% drivetrain loss. As I said, my car with lighter wheels, and the least restrictive drivetrain option could make the same engine power as another 340i with heavy 19" wheels and auto trans and we'll make different power at the wheels. Another example - my diff ratio is higher than autos, so my torque will be higher and therefore horsepower.

That's why i never claim any bhp rating. A modern engine with coated cylinders, 0w20 oil, and all the other efficiency improvements don't have the same drivetrain losses as cars from the 90s just because they're both rwd. You can't compare dyno figures, and you can't slap a percentage loss on it.

All my video confirms is I had up to 18% gain by flashing Stage 1.

If you look in the upper right on each dyno, you’ll see Red’s was corrected SAE standards, where as Kern’s was corrected to STD. STD generally reads roughly 3-4% higher than SAE. So in reality the two dynos are only 8-9 hp apart, which is well within the margin of error.

As you can tell by the replies, it's literally impossible to tell you. Ballpark figures sure, but it can't be compared.

When people ask how much power I'm making, I say at least 321hp it's just not as important to me. Just go enjoy it and pull on some unsuspecting N54s.

Not to hijack but has anyone compared a FBO N54 car to a stage 1 or 2 B58 car? I am flashing mine tonight with an MHD stage 1+ tune and wondering how it'll match up to a FBO N54.

Anecdotally--I had a 2009 n54 335i and all it had was an intercooler and OTS Stg1 MHD tune, and it definitely felt slightly faster than my current 2016 340i with OTS Stg1 BM3 in the same configuration (RWD, MT).

I remember actually being scared in my old car sometimes from how violent it was. I even beat a new turbo 911 on the highway with it (not the Turbo, but the base 911 which also has twin turbos now), maybe my old car was some kind of factory freak

I never quiiiite get those feelings in my B58, even though I can tell it's fast. I don't think it's a case of how the torque comes on more linearly either. Kinda bummed about it honestly but I have yet to bring this up to the PTF guys since I haven't had time to go grab logs. Hopefully they can somehow squeeze some more power out of it.

Here's we go again with the Active8 piggy...which is nothing more than a glorified and overpriced JB+ (boost controller) in a nice wrapper...nice little bump in torque at the expense of drivability and smoothness.

Also, afaik, the A8 is no longer sold or supported by Active Autowerke any longer in replacement of their flash tune, which is inferior to other tunes such as BM3, MHD, Mission, etc. IMO.
