Fuel gauge stuck on full

After having drive shaft replaced from being dropped out the bottom of my car I noticed the fuel gauge was at full. I recall it only being at 1/2 when I dropped off my car so I thought maybe they were nice and gave it a wash and filled tank after test drive. But another 60 miles later and still pegged at full so I added 8.5 gallons of gas. 60 miles later and still full. Any thoughts on cause? Could sensor somehow have been messed up by drive shaft hitting tank? Both BMW and indy shop didn't note any damage to tank that would indicate but strange it happened at same time.

The only thing I can think of is that the signal wire from the pump/leveler in the tank was damaged.
