I am very pleased to know many more have attempted to upgrade the mediocre base system.
I did my base stereo upgrade back in Dec 2015 and was on my own then as nobody attempted to add a center channel as far as I can tell from researching the forums. Anyway, my sound system is a full 16 speakers Bavsound system including ghost sub powered by BimmerTech amp. I recently got all my 4 doors soundproofed and then added a Hertz active sub DBA 200.3 as I find the bass still lacking. With a full tune after all this, I am really pleased with my completion of a 4 year wish to upgrade my sound system. Just sharing what you can do to take it up another notch. Cheers! |

I have checked with bimmertech and they said this harness will delete ASD function... i wish they could come up with a short harness while keeping the ASD working |

I haven't got a reply from bimmertech yet...
I think it should be possible, because all the signals are there... I hope to hear from them soon... |

Yes I heard from them. ASD is bypassed. They say it is not a good idea to keep the ASD with the bimmertech amp...
But you can keep it of you really want I guess. |

I told them that if i really want to keep the ASD function and take the responsibility of the outcome, would they still make a harness for me, and never heard from them back....

I added the harness to delete the ASD after adding bimmertech amp. You can also code out ASD with Esys.

Hei,
I hope you are all good. I've read all the pages of this thread multiple times. Why? Because i've decided to upgrade my audio system too. Right now i have the base system, 6 speaker and i want to make a little upgrade. I managed to get the HiFi amp & speakers for a very small price so i decided to go for it. Today i've spoke with someone who can help me installing the amp harness (the rest of the job i can do it myself) and he told me that it's 99% sure that if i cut the dashboard i will not find the space and system to mount the speaker. From what i've seen in your picture everything it's there, only that the dash it's not cut ... I don't know if he said that because he don't want to do complicated things (already said i will cut it myself) or he is right ... i wanted to ask a second opinion. My car is an F31 from 10/2013. What do you think? Thanks |

You want the center speaker right?
All I can say is I cut the dashboard and everything was there. I don't think they would bother making multiple molds for the dashboard insides just because of Hifi/No Hifi.

I will cut it and worst case if i don't have the speaker hold i will put the grill and that's it. Any advice on cutting the dashboard? I ordered some sharp and small knifes from ebay like GeertB used. Thank you Lancelot. |

I wonder if a small rotating saw could make the job easier.

I was looking for a dremel like that too but don't know if it helps so much since the cut it's not perfect straight. And the "blade" it's larger than the cut for the 4 legs of the grill. |

Hei guys. Another success story
Today i managed to make some holes in my car ) I've bought a lot of shits to make the hole, a dramel, a thing that you can use drills at 90 deg and some small drills. The truth is you only need a modelism knife (http://www.ebay.com/itm/122409198211) and patient. It took me ~ 4 hours because i had a problem. I bought a LCI speaker grill because it has better grip and my car is Non LCI. The thing is on the top left hole you have a pice of plastic which will make you sweat but with patience, a drill and a screwdriver you will be able to dig into it You will see in one picture that the corner didn't want to fit until i cut the plastic. I've attached a photo with the composition of the dashboard (last picture). As you can see there are 3 layers. The "leather", a foam and a pice of plastic/hard cardboard. At the beginning i've cut only the leader and foam. Left the "nice" part at the end :P. Again, all you need to cut it is that sharp knife. Again, thank you very much guys for the support and the template. Last edited by Tavicu; 06-19-2017 at 08:07 AM.. |
