DIY F36 Screen 6.5" to 8.8" upgrade. Best Mod

Saw this upgrade from 2-Series post and finally bit the bullet to upgrade mine , 2015 F36 435.

Required

- F3x 8.8 Screen , Got it used from eBay
- T20-Torx ,

- OBDII Cable for F-Series
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

- E-SYS Software
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=631884

- Learn Coding yourself ( Youtube )

--------------------------------------------------------------------

First - make sure your system is compatible for this upgrade, easiest way is to look at your current iDrive display, if you have a solid red strip highlighting the select menu you are good to go , see here
http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showt...1253651&page=3

Process is pretty simple.

1) Remove Trim
2) Remove 2 T20 Screw holding the screen
3) Disconnect cable from old display to remove ( tight space, use flat head screw driver to pry up the connect )
4) Reverse the above process to install new 8.8" Screen
5) Code the car with below
Only have to code these two entries to read
HU_NBT > 3000 HMI > DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION = 8.8_1280x480
HU_NBT > 3001 EXBOX > DISPLAY_VARIANTE = breites_display

How hard is it to remove the trim? Is it snap on/off or are there screws behind the trim pieces?

Nice job. I agree, this is a good upgrade and relatively easy to do.

Careful buying an 8.8" screen as there is a difference between LCI and pre-LCI (both will work but pre-LCI on an LCI F30 will result in a blueish tint) - see more info here: http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1257854

Mine is full screen with sharp resolution and all the split screen works and looks awesome !!

I also read the non-full screen post before, I think it was referring to if you have the older version (No EntryNav) and did a direct swap

If you're asking which items to change, the simple answer is below. If you don't know how to use E-Sys then you should not do anything before reading the wealth of information available.

Screen upgrade 6.5->8.8
HU_ENTRYNAV (or whatever head unit you have)
3000 DISPLAY_SIZE_RESOLUTION change 6.5_800x480 to 8.8_1280x480
3001 DISPLAY_VARIANTE change schmales_display to breites_display

That's all!

I’ve swapped out the screen on a 2017 F34 from 6.5” to 8.8” it’s ENTRYNAV2. The setting you would need to change is 3005 DISPLAY_PIP_CONFIG. CID DISPLAY set to 8.8 CID DISPLAY RESOLUTION 1240x480, DISPLAY VARIANTE=breites display. The other thing you need to change is the separate navigtion screen size otherwise it’s not in full screen. You can then use split screen which is fantastic. I will post some pictures shortly. The screen that you need is 6822626

Anybody knows the BMW number (?) or name of 2 screws Torx-20 that hold the screen?
I released them and one disappeared inside of a car, so meanwhile I want to order the new one.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks in advance,
From realoem.com:
Oval-head screw with washer 07149185673
seems to fit just about every F-series

Push a rag into the gap BEFORE you start refitting!

Hi again,
I already wrote in a different topic but maybe someone knows in this one.
I have BMW F30 LCI with ENTRYNAV head unit (w/o navigation), bought from eBay and installed 8.8 LCI display (9387453). Coded it with two mentioned previously by topic starter codings and nothing happens. The screen is still black. I'm almost sure that technically it is working since The display seems almost brand new, no scratches, clean and additionally before I bought it seller provided image that it indeed works (I know that this can be different display but nobody will sell broken and say that it is working).

ENTRYNAV
The NAV is the hint for the Navigation.

Did you only change the display or the headunit too?
