$5000. test drive
Not by me...
Had my PPK installed. Took 3 days due to a long "line" at BMW for downloading the software into my new DME (early build 2013). I had asked the service mgr. (long time relationship at this BMW/MINI store ) to test drive the car before returning it to me. When I got the call today, the service advisor informed me he had just driven it and asked if I wanted to pre-purchase a new set of rear tires and that his boss was out with the car as we spoke. When I arrived, I stopped in the service mgrs. office..I asked..well am I going to be happy I did this? OH YEAH..but I am not because I was leaning toward a 328 when my 535 lease is up and now I have to spend 5K more to get a PPK equipped 335. I am supposed to take your money not allow you to spend mine. ( one of my hidden talents) Now..the car. It was a bit misty so I took it easy. Right out of the parking lot the traction control lit up...good start. Throttle tip in is much better in comfort mode. Car was always quick but I felt it a bit "lazy" in comfort mode. Engine feels much more "alive" and wants to GO. 8AT feels quicker and smoother. Tried one 50-70 run with half throttle. Car exploded forward. Big time mid-range torque. So far, so good. More later when I have more seat time, better weather aa cleansed palate. Driving an X5 3.3 for 2 days and my P car while the 335 was in the shop re-calibrated my butt dyno so I need to get more at one with my 335. I will say this...my reaction to the 335 was good when I test drove it but I did not feel it as aggresive as my 2009 135i. This 335 w/ PPK has regained that aggresion and that is why I was willing to spend the money on the kit. I think BMW was very conseravtive in their 320hp/330 torque measurements. Feels much stronger than those numbers. Highly recommended but not sure how they say the gas mileage will stay the same. We'll see. I think BMW was very conseravtive in their 320hp/330 torque measurements. |

Very well put.
Before PPK --> Fast, but "lazy" After PPK --> It "explodes" forward with just half throttle. I guess throttle mapping has a lot to do with the magic of this PPK. Yes the car definitely has more torque, but I believe that it is the revised throttle mapping that makes the car so much more fun now. |

I had never really thought about tracking my cars but after PPK I realize this car should not be opened up on public roads. You will be stopped doing 130mph. I will have to track it now, lol

Yeah the master tech who installed mine said the throttle mapping was key to this DME revision...

thanks...
Day 2--- Dry weather so more "play time". Car is no longer quick, its FAST. I can feel the power just easing into the throttle coming around a corner. Hitting the pedal with any agression and you just rocket away. Mid range torque, especially when ACOMPANIED BY a downshift of the 8AT will mash you right back in the seat. This is the way a 335 should have been right out of the box. Was tired tonight coming home so I set the cruise and put it in eco pro. Did notice the ECO PRO adding miles much faster in its "savings reminder" icon Guess that means non eco-pro mileage just took a hit...SO WORTH IT. Not feeling any lumpy idle I see referred to but the trans does blip a bit more as it downshifts. Maybe that's how it gets this infamous gurgle I have yet to hear cause its so damn cold here in the Midwest and not opening any windows right just now to buy some ear candy. BMW--nice job. |
