Retrofit heated manual seats to electric with memory sport seats

Hello, my F30 came with the basic fully manual seats by the factory. The only plus is that they are heated. I'm thinking of swapping them with the sport leather version, but it would be nice if I could use the fully electric version with memory, and of course being heated as well. My question would be if I have to replace any module or they just need to be plugged and coded? If replacing any modules could be complicated, I'm thinking of using the same spec (fully manual + heated) for the sports ones, as it's simpler to just plug and play them.

Ambitious project - no doubt. Did you have a chance to visit RealOEM and identify all required parts!

I don't have any knowledge of the required parts, but since you put it this way I guess I should just stick with the manual heated sport seats and I won't have to worry about retrofitting any module or electrical parts.

It's not too complicated if you're happy with adding a few additional wires to power the seat functions and to connect them to the K-CAN2/LIN bus. After that you'd just need to code them to the car by amending the VO using E-SYS and potentially injecting the CAFD.

I've gone from manual heated sport seats to fully electric with memory with success. I'm really pleased with the retrofit, it's a nice upgrade.

Sounds good, I have a local service which successfully retrofitted my 6WB digital cluster to my entry nav pre LCI F30, so if it's just about some wiring and coding I think they can help me on this one too. Regardless, I have one question, is it possible to retrofit the electrical part for the new seats and still keep the manual ones until I will find the desired electric seats and then just plug and play them (an electric with memory sport seats set is harder to find than a manual one), or should I put the electric seats right after I have the electrical part done?

Sure I don’t think there will any issue doing that. In effect those pins you connect in to the yellow connector will just not be connected to anything. When you find the seats though they should then just be plug and play, bearing in mind you may need to do code them in.

Sounds good. One more thing, I saw a few electric seats but they come from UK cars which have the dirver's seat on the right side. As far as I remember only the driver's seat have the memory buttons, so I guess I should aim for a standard left side driver seat set to have everything in place.

After months of searching I was finally able to find a good set of fully electric with memory seats. However, when I asked my local technician if he's able to retrofit my manual seats, he told me that he can only make the electric adjustments functional but not the memory option, as it requires the door panels which should have an unit for the memory function and it's a bit complicated. That's why I wanted to double check here, is this true or actually we don't really need the door panels or anything else besides the seats to make the seat memory work?

I haven't found a good pair of seats that match my black interior so far (the seats I found a few months ago on my last message were actually brown), but I just found a very good used black set. The only question is, since the set is coming from an F36 model, is the back seat compatible with my F30?

Hi, thanks for the reply ReMiii40, I know the front seats are compatible, but I was actually interested in the rear seat instead, since it's coming from a 4 series Gran Coupe.
