I drive 6 and CarPlay

Hi

Got my new 440i GC en route, and it should be at the dealer week after next. Because of the shortage of cars, I had to make a few compromises on spec one of which was CarPlay. On my current F36 I can't buy CarPlay because I don't have enhanced Bluetooth, but I'm hearing that you don't need it to buy CarPlay on the latest I drive 6 with touchscreen, is that right?

Have you used car play? I bought a months trial for a quid I don’t think I’m going to be shelling out for it when the trial ends not really impressed.

Really. I was thinking of getting retrofit to get this working

I don't find it as easy to make calls (I do have 2 phones which i use in the car often) the Waze navigation thru CarPlay wasn't great. I'm going to keep trying it but don't plan on spending £100/£250 quid to have it!

I'm loving CarPlay. Waze works surprisingly well in my opinion. In time I think it will completely replace the likes of iDrive.

curious on this too. Didn't need enhanced bluetooth and as usual BMW options are a tangle of cross-dependencies.

But in my wife's polo carplay is pretty nice - quick to use, siri is great for 'give me directions to home' etc, and you get access to more music apps than on BMW. I know you can stream via bluetooth but honestly I've had such a bad experience with bluetooth audio pausing constantly I barely use it.

I think carplay with the new ios works pretty well on my ID6.

I added CarPlay from eBay for £40. I must admit the integration isn't perfect but having Waze is really excellent, shame it doesn't appear in the HUD.

Yeah the lack of integration with HUD/instrument cluster is a big thing. Apparantly Apple supports that but almost no car makers do

The WiFi antenna? No my car has the tech pack, so came with WiFi Prep, Wireless Charging and EBT.

Carplay will work without the antenna but plugging the phone in makes no difference to the signal because carplay works via Wi-Fi.

If you want carplay then install the antenna for the best experience.

is there anything that needs to be done to make it available without antenna? It isn't showing up on the connected drive store - says 'not availble for this car'. Have idrive 6 but none of the extended bluetooth/wifi prep.
