4 Series Gran Coupe M-Sport - Buy 430d or 430i???
Hi guys,
Next week I will be buying a BMW aproved used 4 Series Gran Coupe M-Sport. That’s decided. However I’m torn between the 430i or the 430d, I have already worked out I can’t afford the 440i so don’t even go there! They are very close price wise, the 430i being slightly cheaper, but not by much. The petrol is a fraction slower, but sounds much nicer. The deisel sounds good for a deisel, but I still think the petrol sounds better. However the petrol is only a 4 cylinder, where as the deisel has that mighty straight 6. I do about 12k miles a year which isn’t a lot. But I’d be keen to know if anyone has any real world MPG of eithe car. Help me out guys, I can’t decide. |

[since you indicated 430i] - I would assume your engine is B46/48] - that being said - don't let that 4-cylinder engine fool you ... it WILL give you a kick in the @ss
how long do you intend to keep the car for ? |

Do you mean the 4 cylinder is a good engine?
I’ve heard good things about it, and on some YouTube videos I’ve watched of it, it sounds pretty good too! Some nice exhaust notes and even a little bit of poping. However, I’ve had a straight 6 in my old E39 520i (2.2) and I know how sweet an engine it is. So I really do want that straight 6 awesomeness, it just comes at such a price in the form of the 440i. The 420d is much more affordable. But you lose the sound:-( I expect I will keep the car for 2 years. What would you do? |

Because gas is more expensive than diesel in the UK.

Considering that he's looking at the 430i, that's not relevant. Did you even read what OP wrote?

I sure did, a 435i is obviously going to be worse on gas than a 430i. Two extra cylinders tends to do that.

Personally I would choose the 430i if you absolutely want a brand new car.
However, if you want to go for a used car and you are concerned about power, I would also go for a used 435i with CPO. It's a lot more fun, you get extra goodies here and there on the car and it opens more possibility if you want to mod it later.. |
