My vote goes for ignition coils.

Spark plugs are new. Less than 10k oem bmw spark plugs from ecstuning.
All coils would go bad? Or one bad would cause this?

I had similar issues when one of my injectors went bad. Did you get any codes from the car?

Bring it to an Indy. Someone who won't try to rob you. Maybe invest in a Bentley manual.

No codes at all. Have try 3 different obd2 readers.
Tried a new battery and is the same thing.
No crank.

If you watch the first video i posted is the same thing.
No cranking.

No more warnings about ignition/starter malfunction

*UPDATES*

spun bearing on cylinder 3. engine locked up.
my mechanic was able to get the engine to turn after soaking the cylinder with oil.
engine now sounds like a machine gun from 2.5k-4k RPMS.
drives fine but is burning oil like crazy.

no signs of anything prior to car breaking down.
oil changed every 4.5k-5k miles with Castrol 0w-40 or M1 0w-40 with Mann oil filters.

I didn't "baby" this car (always kept her in sport+ mode) but I also waited until fully warm up to open her up.
but I guess is just bad luck...

my mechanic said that my oil level looked good and the oil looked like it had still life left (had changed it 3k miles ago)

so I don't know. I guess is new engine for me.

EDIT

car was 100% stock and with 72k miles. bought at 40k miles

The unfortunate thing about buying used cars is that even though you do the maintenance correctly it's hard to know if the previous owners did unless you ask for evidence of it.

What's the estimate for the engine job?

I don't know yet.
he told me he will try and find another engine with around same mileage.
so im waiting. I just got my car back a week ago.
he had my car for almost a month. (I was also away in vacation)

im thinking probably around 7.5k-10k?

i wonder if i could get away with installing a '15 N55 instead

Yes you could put in another year model N55 but that will not give you EWG instead of PWG etc.

You would just be using the engine, not the other parts.

And in response to someone told you in N55 thread (I cannot post a response there), BMW will not be offering to replace your engine.

As I cannot post on any engine thread, been spending more time on other BMW Sources on the web sharing info about BMW issues.

There is someone who has a 2015 M5 that was 4 years and 6 weeks since delivery (6 weeks out of warranty) Injector failed and engine blew.

Even though there is a recall on the M5 injectors for failure that is well documented and warranty on the injector extended, BMW has refused to pay for an engine replacement.

They have offered to sell me an engine for 20% off (nice guys). Of course then there is installation.....

Again, the M5 was 6 weeks out of warranty by time (not miles) and injector warranty extended....but SOL on end result of injector failure.

He had a much stronger case than you do on a 2013 with 70k+ miles.

So while it doesn’t hurt to try, don’t expect any miracles.

BTW, it can be repaired without new engine, fwiw, but I’d would let a Dealership do it.

I’ve had coils go. On a 6,you don’t even feel it. On a 4,it feels like a misfire.

Hi all!

New member here! Been following this forum for a while. That's because I haven't YET have a BMW and has always been thinking about getting one. With the latest 3-series cutting out the 6MT (which in my mind is a must), I've left to shop the used market to find a good one. I wanted everyone's opinion.

I saw a promising one on a post for a 2013 335i xDrive with M Package 6MT, Good condition, but I have yet to see it in person. 90,000 km (I'm in Canada) (56,000 miles). For all the 335i owners out there, is there any BIG ticket items that might be coming up at those mileages? How do you guys feel about that mileage for the car (ie: reasonable and likely many good years left, or walk away as it won't last too long).

From looking through a variety of threads, it seems the consensus is that the F30 is one of the more reliable versious out there and other than the occassional spark plug, therometer, or charge pipe changes, there hasn't been too many big problems.

Thanks for the input. The price seems reasonable for the year and the mileage. I'm looking for at least 4-5 good years out of it (at about 20,000km per year) but more if I really like it. It very well could be one of the last 6MT BMWs that's out there in a few more years.

KT

yeah I kind of figured that I would just get laughed at by calling BMW of America.

im not interested on the EWG but I read somewhere that the last years N55 had better rod bearings (the same as S55) in another forum.so I figured IF true then might as well go for a newer engine.

I have been thinking about getting the engineend rebuilt. my car will probably remain stock for the remaining of its life so I don't know if it would be worth it at the end so compare to just getting another used engine that will probably have the same rod bearing problem.

I don't know. I have a Audi a4 avant with the inline 4 and have own various i6 as well (gms 4.2l I6, e46 i6, e92 N54) and have been able to tell when they were misfiring whether it was spark plugs or coils

Is this what I have to look forward to? My 2013 335 is creeping up on 70K. I hope I don't win this lottery. k3vin0615 , no rod bearing kit can fix this?

i don't know man. like i said my engine seized. i burn out my starter trying to start the car so i forgot to mention that but i had my starter replaced as well.
but my mechanic couldn't turn the engine by hand. he soaked all cylinders in wd40 and oil and manage to have it turn by hand after soaking for 3 days.

i don't know if its fixable at this point.
the car is drive able. ive drove it for 2 hours after getting it to just test it but it smokes from the engine bay and also from the exhaust. it smells like burned oil.

it sounds like a machine gun from certain RPMS. like this video.

my brother bought a 2011 e92 335xi N55 recently.
he texted me that he was due for his oil change recently and I told him to go with Liqui moly instead of Castrol. he is also changing his oil every 5k miles.
he doesn't drive like me so I doubt his car will be driven like I drive mine but I hope he doesn't have any problems. he bought his with 66k miles and now has 76k miles.
