Ok, something new here...
The 2 USB ports of my car are not working (both of them, the one in the armrest and the one on the front panel).
They don't charge my iPhone and nothing happens when I plug a USB stick with music files (can't see it in the Media\USB).
I tested with a USB stick who has a red led on it. It flashes when it's plugged in my colleague's Passat but nothing when it's plugged into my car.

Several weeks ago, I had to replace the fuse because the front cigarette lighter (12v) socket wasn't working. But at the moment, it's working.
Is there a separate USB fuse for USB's ?

I was able to get the maps on a 64 GB stick that was Fat32. It started the update but after an HOUR it's still only at 12%.....any idea how.long this update takes??
I had the 2018-1 on there (2015 X6) and I dont remember it taking this long.

Last question, does the car have to be running or can it do it off the battery with the car off?? Except at current rate it will take like 7 hours.....

Any ideas??

It's hilarious just how slow the BMW download manager is at putting the files onto a USB 3 drive though
I think it’s because they’re compressed files that are being extracted.

I think connected drive is playing up, the download app won't let me check for map updates, and the website is not showing any cars linked to my account!

And I can't find a way to start/force the update in the iDrive.

Car : 2016 BMW 330e F30 with NBTevo
USB stick: Samsung 64Gb Fit Plus

Maps download and saved on the USB stick using the BMW software "Download manager"
I formatted the USB stick in FAT32 with my MacBook.

Could someone help me ?
I had to click on "navigate" in the main menu after the USB was installed to start the update process. But I have a 2013 with CIC, yours may be different.

As long as you have one fat partition big enough to hold it use a zip tool to manually extract it.

I have used my 500gb external hard drive (powered by usb) with a single 40gb fat partition.

Got the same error as the OP.

Found the folder the bmw tool downloaded it too - somewhere like - local user/app data/ bmw.

Its actually a zip file so manually unpacked it to my drive and the car picked it up fine.

I can confirm this. I extracted the ZIP file that the BMW Download Mananger downloaded and put that in the root of my 1TB USB powered HD (Western Digital is that matters). The USB drive is formatted as NTFS.

Next I connected the drive to the USB port in the central armrest before powering on the car. Upon powering up the car detected the update immediately and I just had to confirm that I wanted to update.

Update was done in about 20 minutes I think.

G30 (530e) Map Update

Updated from Europe Evo 2017-1 to 2020 - 2. This worked for me without a hitch:

128GB USB Drive
Formatted exFat with Allocation Unit Size = 32768 (max size possible)
Unpacked Zip download to USB root directory
Plugged USB into car, ignition on, installation started immediately.
Finished in about 40 mins elapsed time with several interruptions of about an hour each when car was not running

After a lot of hassle trying to format a 2TB SSD drive to FAT32, I went for the manual unzipping of the Evo File.
Download manager could see any usable USB drive to unpack to. Tried everything..

Some tips;

Location: C:/Users/YOURNAME/bmw-dlm/dl/Road_Map_EUROPE_EVO_2022-1

The file which I've downloaded had no extension.
I just renamed the file and put ".zip" behind the filename.
Et voilá, I could unzipp it to my flashdrive.

Which was NTFS... Worked like a charm in my car..

As I read seem ExFat or NTFS both works on USB pendrive greater then 32gb.

I've downloaded the EVO 2022-1 version from a torrent, unpacked on my exfat 128gb pendrive but with no result; think the file I downloaded is corrupted.

Downloaded file from another channel, same result: update wan't start on both usb ports.

Any idea?

SOLVED
Problem was the USB pen drive: it won't to be recognized by the car.
On the pc it seems ok, but "chkdsk" command start but won't finish.

deleted all, created new partition FAT32 on 128gb usb drive, copied all (FSC dir included), chkdsk worked and boom: update made.
